I'm not trading down 7 spots for a third pair guy

And I don't want Dubois to step foot in the state of New Jersey

Fehervary is solid young dman with two years at low cap it. I think it would be worth it.

And personally, I don’t want to see any “third pair guy” on the roster at all. Fehervary is 2nd pair on many teams. We need six good dmen.

I'm good with bringing in Hayes but not for a 2nd round pick. STL only paid a 6th to get from PHI and that was with 50% retention.

Pass on PLD, he's been a headcase for 3 organizations now and he's not even 26

Holtz probably gets you Markstrom, but not retention.

Don’t worry - the Fehervary conversation is moot. The caps wouldn’t even consider this deal. Fehervary is their top young defenseman in the organization and is on an amazing deal. He logs roughly 20 minutes a night and he’s a fantastic skater, solid puck mover, and incredibly physical - not to mention he’s only 24 and has room to grow his game even further. The caps ****ed up with moving Siegenthaler too soon, they won’t do it again with MF.

Fehervary is a very good 2nd pairing defenseman. Conversely, it's not worth trading Fehervary to move up 7 spots

Alexeyev is probably more realistic ask…but I’m not sure he beats out Bahl. Fehervary size/skating make him great fit here. If there were a path, I’d hope Fitzy looks for it.

If you took this exact same trade and swapped out Fehervary for Alexyev, I’d probably call that a big overpay by the devils. But I truly don’t know just how significant the change between 10-17 is in this draft. I’ve come around on Alexyev, but I also realize his trade value is probably very low given his unimpressive first few years in the NHL. Caps organization seems to think he’s turning the corner now and I personally agree, but other teams have no reason to overpay for a maybe.

Yea the Caps MIGHT do the Malenstyn deal, but you're way off on the Fehervary deal. No reason for DC to move him anyways
