Honestly, I don't mind this from the Leaf's perspective. But I'd say, of the small chance Marner waives his NMC, Winnipeg would probably be one of the last places he'd do that for.

Why would Winnipeg do that?

Money talks. If an extension is on the table at 11-12 million, why not? Jets have a good team.

Because the Jets won't be the only team in on Marner if he went to FA next summer.

Pair Scheifele with a star winger, lock up a star, sell tickets. Making a big trade after a disappointing first round loss is a smart idea imo. It keeps fans engaged.

Jets make this trade only with an extension attached.

I'm saying from Marner's perspective, why would he waive to a place he doesn't want to play, considering he can get the same money from a team he does want to play for in summer 25'?

I don't think a lucrative contract is out there for him from a good team that makes the playoffs every year. Jets are unique in that they are a good team, they just got knocked out so they may be willing to make a big trade, and they're willing to overpay because so few free agents sign there.

Marner and Winnipeg say no. One year of Marner and his contract don't have the value Leafs fans think it does
