Gardiner's new contract is going to be tricky. The guy either look like one of the worst D in the league or he is playing incredible well and I'm just trying not to Jinx it.

Honestly with Management giving contracts to rookies like Rosen and Borgman and with the development of Nielsen and Dermott, topped off by extending Rielly to a six year deal, I think the writing is on the wall for Gardiner to leave when his contract is done, unless he gives us no reason except to move out a rookie or even Rielly, but I highly doubt the chance of that.

Also, Leafs aren't gonna go after Trouba and you're missing comp. Liljegren will be more than ready for at least a second pairing role by that point if he develops properly.

island/rangers fan. Well the Leafs (and all teams) will have another two years to evaluate Gardiner before he hits UFA. If he continues to be good, I doubt Leafs can afford him. For cap reasons it might be time for Dermot. Nielsen, Borgman or who ever, cheaper guys on ELCs to take over. Actually Gardiner turnovers really improved last year. He will always have a lot of turnovers cause he handles the puck so much
