Initial Creation Date: May 13, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A new top line and an improved d-core would push "top line players" the Caps have been using to where they should be in the lineup(which increases depth). These moves would also make the Caps competitive now and past Ovi's retirement when we would have the cap space to resign most of the new players.

Cool post for sure. I think you made a pretty decent attempt at Buchnevich. For PLD, I'm not sure if it makes sense from the LAK perspective. If they really wanna get rid of that contract, and they are sure that's the direction they wanna go in, then it makes sense. But i still feel like the LAK are in compete territory and could use the player more than the picks. You could make an argument that they could use the space to go and get someone to help them compete, which is fair. but i still feel like they might be able to get more for PLD potentially.

I think giving up Cristall as part of the package for Buch would be a mistake. AS much as I like Buch as a player and think he would immediately help any team he is on, this team isn't in a place to be moving prospects. I also think that getting Dubois could be a mistake. He has the talent to be worth that contract, but his production and effort are historically inconsistent. Lapierre was playing well as a top 6 center, so I would rather let him be the 2c and spent that money on a goalie to tandem with Lindgren, keeping Dowd, a better depth player and getting a better D over Ceci.

It is also worthwhile mentioning that Reinhart can play center, though he isn't great at faceoffs.

I hate to say it... but Blues probably accept this one. Others may disagree though

Iorio and Cristall are nice. It's just Jensen is the major turn off with having a few years left at a decent cap hit. If Faulk moved out in a different move, this is more palatable.

Plus one would have to question if there's any protection on the 2025 1st. If not, it would make it even more interesting

I would say top 5 protected because it's clear the intention in these trades is to become a contender so top 5 protection wouldn't change much in the deal.

Leafs trade is great value but I think Toronto will address their D core via FA

No one will pick up Kuemper if he is waived so he will cost 4.15M against the cap while buried. What happened to him this season. He's had a great career so did he just fall off a cliff this year or what?
