I doubt Calgary has the cap to do the deal. They take on 4m and still are down a player who they have to sign.

Don't think CGY would do that. But let's talk about why you gave Vanek a 2 year $7M contract. You could get him for a 1 year $1M deal.

They have 7 mil left over now. Trading Tkachuck and Brodie frees up about 5.75 mil so now 12.75 free. 3+mil free for Ovechkin. Do they want to make the trade? Probably not, but they can

Boy, I just can't wait to see TJ Brodie on that left point on teh Caps pore pleh!!! But if you throw in two or three first round picks, and a couple of prospects, I think the Caps have to start making calls to see if there's similar value out there for Backstrom to justify messing up one of the best forward lines and one of the best power plays in the league. In sports, you never say never. It's all just fun and games. I'm sure Ovechkin could teach Calgary's young forwards a thing or two, and I'm sure they could get him the puck in front of the net, so why not?
