I personally think they should just wait for more of the years on his contracts to run out because they aren't good enough yet to NEED to get rid of him and their own 1st and 2nd next year is very valuable to give up.

It's not a lot to dump him. They get to move up in this years draft and still keep the #5 (PIT Pick is #14). Who knows where the Habs will fall next year, and they still have another first rounder then. The second is just icing.

SJ also needs to hit the floor this year, so it might be enticing enough for them, though I'm not sure they want to give up a top 15 pick this year when they are in a full rebuild.

Personally I think MTL wins this trade, as they clear cap to sign a better player and get the best pick of all the picks involved.

If that 25 Montreal pick is unprotected and there’s no D left at 14 then sure.
