With a defence heavy draft like this one, I highly doubt 4 forwards go in the top 5. Especially with how top heavy the Draft is supposed to be next year.

You're on drugs if you think a team would give up that high of a pick for him, Debrincat when he was traded was MUCH better then Rossi, like its not even comparable, the difference between them is much more then a 2nd and a 3rd

Calling the man that drafted Slafkovsky and Hutson in his first ever draft, "short sighted" is... interesting to say the least, even Reinbacher is the opposite of a shortsighted move, a shortsighted move would be drafting someone for position and rush them up this year, whether you agree with the pick or not, the goal of the Reinbacher pick was to swing for something that every team wants but not many have, a huge top pairing right shot defencemen who can shut down NHL rushes and transition the puck out of the zone.
An example of what they want out of Reinbacher is something like Brock Faber, Faber's best ability is to get the puck off the back wall efficiently for an quick zone exit and rush attack, putting the other team on the backfoot. Turning defence into offence, the way they both go about it is similar, so it makes sense that MTL will try to develop Reinbacher like him.

Whats his price
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Goalie</b></div><div>Yea we’d totally sell arguably our second best forward this season for a bunch of futures with the main piece being protected!!!</div></div>
You could easily use those assets in the offseason to get a player better then Lafreniere, also I don't believe you are being reasonable if you genuinely believe he is close to 2nd best forward, it's not arguable at all, Panarin, Kreider, Trocheck and Zibanejad have all been head and shoulders above, both offensively and defensively (except Trocheck on defence, his xGA is abysmal, and yet he still has better overall defence stats slightly), advanced stats and the eye test agree, hell even Chytil has better average underlying numbers then Lafreniere (obviously small sample size but it shows my point). He is doing much better for sure, but it still isn't exceptional.
Also of course it is protected, 2025 is an insanely top heavy draft, all of those top 5 players alone hold more value then Lafrienere.
Edit: Coming back to this later, this is insanely lopsided for the Rangers, this package is sizably bigger then the package for Debrincat (the first time), who was coming off a 40 goal season and nearly ppg, but instead it is for a cap dump and 50 point pace player.

The NYR one is probably the most fair one lmao, if I was Montreal's GM I wouldn't do it, cause Goodrow is a cap dump and NY gets the equivalent of 3 first round picks (including MTL's) and a young defencemen. So if this was an offseason move before the draft, NYR gets the better deal.

Montreal only has 1 retention slot, and I believe that only becomes available after the draft. So I don't think this is even possible.

You really think you are getting a blue chip on top? Matheson and 2 firsts including a likely top 5 is way to much. He is good, but that is ridiculous to expect that much.

what a horrible trade for MTL, a prospect that is slightly over a ppg in the QMJHL (so a B tier prospect) and a 6th, for a defencemen on a 60 point pace with retention. I obviously don't think that his numbers are sustainable, but that's a spit in the face type of offer.

Timo Meier to MTL
I would steer clear of Meier if I was KH, 8.8 million for a guy approaching his late 20's for 7 years after this one, and being mid 30's when it ends. He has gotten better but his numbers have heavily regressed when he wasn't THE guy in San Jose. Getting rid of Anderson is nice, especially since his offensive numbers have tanked this year, but MTL could potentially replace him with more expensive version in terms of a drag on the cap.

You might get a heat soon, so get ready for your inbox to explode, they are very protective of Pettersson, I learned the hard way about a year after their draft when I said I thought Makar was better then Pettersson in 2018, and got somewhere close to 100 death threats and a ton of comment abuse.

Pettersson to MTL
Small note for my argument: As a prerequisite for this deal, we assume it comes with an extension.
I literally don't think there is a price MTL could pay for Pettersson that is both worth it for the Canucks and wouldn't set MTL back years on the rebuild, they are going to asking for a stupid high price, because unless its's an overpay like we have never seen before, they just sign him and try to win. The stuff that was said by the insiders before the season started doesn't really apply because of how good they have been. There is no reason for Pettersson to want out now.
They would be looking at guys like Caufield, Slafkovsky, Reinbacher, Guhle, MTL's 1st this year, Suzuki, Hutson. All of the most valuable pieces of now and the near future and taking some of them. Mailloux, magic beans (Which arent even MTL's), and Dach wouldn't make sense for them because they are in win now mode.
So I don't think it makes sense for either team, Vancouver doesn't need to trade him which means Montreal would need to pay a premium I don't think they are ready to.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Howie</b></div><div>Yep also mtl fans tend not to understand the picks and how they are determined. Example jets finish first in the league and lose first round that pick is 28th regardless. Any team eliminated in the first 2 rounds get picks 17-28 based on the standings of those teams top 4 get 29-32. Most realistic location for the pic is 22-28 tbh</div></div>
The first part was right, if they finish first in league, the 28th is minimum, but not for the reason you said and the stuff after that isn't entirely accurate, the teams that make it to the finals get 31 and 32, the conference finalists get 30 and 29, the conference winners that lost get the the picks after (it changes based on how many made it to the conference finals), THEN the teams that didn't win their division get sorted by points. For the sake of example, lets say the standings stay the same as they are now. If the Rangers and Panthers lost in the first 2 rounds, even though Florida is higher in the standings, their pick is before New York's because New York won their division.
I know it isn't entirely relevant atm, but I wanted it to be more clear so other people know for the future and also because Winnipeg isn't guaranteed to win their division, it could cause their pick to be a few picks better then the way you explained it, potentially a 26th pick turns into a 22nd. (Hope I broke the stereotype for you)
