It makes perfect sense for Montreal to offer, doesn't make sense for Columbus though. Cause Montreal needs young forward talent.

Timo Meier to MTL
I would steer clear of Meier if I was KH, 8.8 million for a guy approaching his late 20's for 7 years after this one, and being mid 30's when it ends. He has gotten better but his numbers have heavily regressed when he wasn't THE guy in San Jose. Getting rid of Anderson is nice, especially since his offensive numbers have tanked this year, but MTL could potentially replace him with more expensive version in terms of a drag on the cap.

Pettersson to MTL
You might get a heat soon, so get ready for your inbox to explode, they are very protective of Pettersson, I learned the hard way about a year after their draft when I said I thought Makar was better then Pettersson in 2018, and got somewhere close to 100 death threats and a ton of comment abuse.

Thread:
Pettersson to MTL
Small note for my argument: As a prerequisite for this deal, we assume it comes with an extension.
I literally don't think there is a price MTL could pay for Pettersson that is both worth it for the Canucks and wouldn't set MTL back years on the rebuild, they are going to asking for a stupid high price, because unless its's an overpay like we have never seen before, they just sign him and try to win. The stuff that was said by the insiders before the season started doesn't really apply because of how good they have been. There is no reason for Pettersson to want out now.
They would be looking at guys like Caufield, Slafkovsky, Reinbacher, Guhle, MTL's 1st this year, Suzuki, Hutson. All of the most valuable pieces of now and the near future and taking some of them. Mailloux, magic beans (Which arent even MTL's), and Dach wouldn't make sense for them because they are in win now mode.
So I don't think it makes sense for either team, Vancouver doesn't need to trade him which means Montreal would need to pay a premium I don't think they are ready to.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Howie</b></div><div>Yep also mtl fans tend not to understand the picks and how they are determined. Example jets finish first in the league and lose first round that pick is 28th regardless. Any team eliminated in the first 2 rounds get picks 17-28 based on the standings of those teams top 4 get 29-32. Most realistic location for the pic is 22-28 tbh</div></div>
The first part was right, if they finish first in league, the 28th is minimum, but not for the reason you said and the stuff after that isn't entirely accurate, the teams that make it to the finals get 31 and 32, the conference finalists get 30 and 29, the conference winners that lost get the the picks after (it changes based on how many made it to the conference finals), THEN the teams that didn't win their division get sorted by points. For the sake of example, lets say the standings stay the same as they are now. If the Rangers and Panthers lost in the first 2 rounds, even though Florida is higher in the standings, their pick is before New York's because New York won their division.
I know it isn't entirely relevant atm, but I wanted it to be more clear so other people know for the future and also because Winnipeg isn't guaranteed to win their division, it could cause their pick to be a few picks better then the way you explained it, potentially a 26th pick turns into a 22nd. (Hope I broke the stereotype for you)

The funniest thing about it is that it was Jets fans who were the ones spamming 'Monahan isn't worth a first' on every type of social media, idk what their problem with us was but they have been awful, I wouldn't call this karma, but also suck it.

Mock One 2024
Eiserman is an interesting one, depending on the person he is in wildly different ranges. The people who still have him high can't deny the scoring talent, he may not be great at other things but goal scoring is THE most important thing in the NHL, as well as one of the hardest. On the otherhand the people who have him falling are the ones who aren't certain he will translate fully and see that all his eggs are all placed in 1 basket with his goal scoring, he doesn't really have any other A tier qualities.
I think his situation is very interesting as a Habs fan, because we talk about what would have happened if Caufield was 6 foot, well I think what is happening to Eiserman is exactly what would have happened to Caufield, some have him at 2nd and others have him dropping because of the one dimensioness of his play. It will be interesting to look back on in a few years.

If you want to upgrade puck possession time you need those kinds of player.</div></div>
Trust me, I know what they are, you are preaching the MTL players to a MTL fan, but what I meant is why would the leafs do that specific deal, if they just swap it for picks and money then it makes sense but Minten is one of the only decent prospects they have so it doesn't make sense for them to trade him.

Draisaitl to Montreal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>svfsdv</b></div><div>Yes MTL is a bad team with bad players. So mediocre guys look good.</div></div>
That is some backwards thinking logic, it's a circular argument at best that just leads into "on a better team, he will have better players around him to finish off his plays, as he was alone on the bad team." The only reason anyone would use your argument is to devalue the player from what he actually is, which is exactly what you're doing. While someone who wants to improve how he looks would say, he is the only one on his team getting these numbers with little support.
So why don't you stop being salty and give him the respect he deserves, you aren't a GM, you're trying to frame him as bad but you aren't in a negotiation, it doesn't do anything but make you look silly. He isn't a 1D on Edmonton obviously, but he would easily be your 3rd, depending if he gets the McDavid boost, 2nd best defencemen, as of rn better then Nurse and Ceci with no real debate on that, Ekholm is hard to compare because what he brings is stability, so I'll say 3rd D because Oilers are **** without Ekholm.

What Habs fans think Monahan is worth
It's weird, but also funny how people think it's Montreal fans over or under balling, and intentionally turn a blind eye to the people who do the same thing the other way.
In this instance MTL fans argue like a 1st plus sweetener of some sort and Jets fans are doing FC or a 7th round pick with retention.
It's very entertaining seeing the 2 sides fight in irreverent trade purposes, the PLD stuff was a nightmare, Either a Montreal fan would do like a 2nd and Jets fans would swarm it with like Dach + Slaf + a pick or vise versa where Jets fans asked for way to much as the OP and the Montreal fans were commenting.

This deal is a piece of work, it's just bad and I don't want to talk about it.
But just your comment in a vacuum is just bad. I get that you're upset that the Kulak pick became Hutson but don't be stupid about it. Also Matheson (on a bad Habs team) would be 6th in points on Edmonton, only behind McDavid, Drai, Nuge, Hyman and Bouchard.

This looks like a bad trade for MTL, I don't know the prospect very well, but I doubt a 21 yr old that far sub a ppg in the AHL is worth moving down in the draft by a round and a bit (likely will be mid first and late 2nd) and giving Monahan who is a positive value asset which we could sell for decently high picks at the deadline.
If I am missing something let me know but it doesn't look great.
