So trade for a guy with a huge issue and one step away from possibly being permanently banned from the league for the low price of our best offensive prospect+ a 2nd.

Also trading EP40 for a guy who's career post season stats are similar to Peteys off 1st playoff run (non-covid) and an aging injury prone power forward who is past his prime. This would gut our team and would be lucky to make the playoffs especially seen Silovs hasn't played a full NHL season no guarantee he can handle 50 games in the NHL and still be good.

Today I learned signed Elias Pettersson is worth less than upcoming UFA Nikolaj Ehlers.

... Wonder when the mods plan on dealing with this troll. He's only being doing this for MONTHS.

Not a cup contender and not $3M a year. But true.

True, they're not a Cup contender, but Nichushkin's situation isn't really "Normal" anyways.

I don't think he's traded at all. BUT, if they wanted to trade him and the only way they could get rid of him is to retain half, they might. Better $3M in dead cap than $6M.

Not normal is an understatement. I think they would try and negotiate a termination far before trading him, though I don’t know what kind of cap ramifications if any a negotiated termination would have. I just can’t see retaining for 6 years especially knowing Rantanen and Makar need extensions. But he literally has no value right now and a full NMC until next off season complicates it further. Hell I think it could end up being a case of just trading him for future considerations if somebody is willing to take his contract.

Agreed upon termination has no ramifications. (I'm sure there are other examples, but Detroit and Zadina agreed to terminate last year)

I just don't see him agreeing to give up the $30M+ remaining on his deal, considering nobody else likely pays him that.

Oh I agree, I’ve had discussion with friends about how even though he has ****ed up royally he is still owed $36M and change guaranteed and has an NMC then a modified NMC, and he is theoretically in the drivers seat. The only weak argument and it’s weak is that to get a new start he waives his NMC, but why would he? I think the only real teams that make sense are FLA, TB, NYR, WSH, maybe PIT maybe CAR in other words teams with a strong Russian presence but they don’t have cap. But until he completes the program and plays his value is basically negative.
