Kaako is a bust. He is worth peanuts. To even suggest getting anything substantial for him is ridiculous. The problem with the Necas trade besides being an inter division issue, Both teams are looking for cap space/value. Neither can provide both. Carolina in return for Necas is going to look for a high upside low cost forward. Mainly, a player that is still on an ELC but budding.

He's in the Nail Yakupov production range, and Yakupov at that point was already getting shuffled around for B/C-prospects and conditional late picks. Yet here the ask for Kakko would cost us a high 2nd (because trading our 2025 2nd means our 2024 2nd goes to Philly) and a guaranteed 3rd. He's not far off from Puljujarvi, who's been traded around at the deadline for even less.

He's 23, so there's still a chance for him, and so it's potentially worthwhile to the Rangers to keep him as a potential "house money" add, but at this point paying substantial assets for him - like, any 2nd round picks or higher - is a fool's gambit.
