Wonder how busy Grier will be this offseason.. This is obviously some of a pipe dream but I believe there are quite a few realistic aspects to this roster. Curious to hear other opinions.

Carolina laugh and decline. Even if the picks were the other way around, you wouldn't get Orlov for that

Hard pass on Cousins and Orlov. I think go after one of Pesce or DeMelo, not both. Keep Granlund as well and I think it's best to assume that Couture is not starting the year (if ever playing again).

Overall I like the moves but it's a bit too active for reality. You typically see 1-3 Impact NHLer Free Agent signings per offseason for any given team. 5 + 2 new rookie signings + 1 cap dump roster player is a lot of change

lol Orlov isn’t a cap dump. He’s gonna be an important player for canes next year and unlikely to be moved (spare me the cap space is valuable argument - can swap kk with Orlov in this deal if you’d like).

Also why would Pesce go to a bottom 5 team in California on a short term deal? Can just get that and stay in CAR or get a longer term deal.

Don’t see Utah giving up 2 2nds for those players.

Only $27m available, here are the names they have to resign and the value they may demand:
Necas- $8-9m
Jarvis $6-8m
Pesce $5-7m
Skjei $4-6m
Teravainen $5-7m
That's $28m minimum right there^
Not even including Guentzel, Martinook, Drury, Noesen, etc.
How else are they supposed to make room for the guys who have gotten them this far?

KK, Andersen and Burns are all more likely to go before Orlov, and $7m for top-4 defensemen isn't bad maybe a bit of an overpayment not by much

3 valuable players versus 1, I just don't know how that'd make any sense from management.

Granny can get a low tier 1st rounder himself, Benning is serviceable and cheap, 2 2nd's for a team who could look to partially buy to boost the new city's excitement and they have 3-4 2nd rounders in each draft, I bet they could part with a couple and not even blink.

That's what I was going for, a more aggressive view point. I saw a lot of names that really strike me as guys we could grab if we pay enough. I'd be happy with even half the acquisitions I put here.

You could maybe get a late 1st for Granlund with retention, but the Sharks can’t retain, so you’d need to find a 3rd party. Benning is not worth anything right now as he missed the majority of last year to injury.

Why would Pesce want to go to the best weather state in the country, get paid $6-7m to play here for a couple years, play top line minutes with one of the youngest teams in the league. Lol be real.

Why would Utah need retention? Nearly $40m in cap space.. Instead of a first, sharks get 2 2nds.

What a player’s cap hit is impacts his trade value. Granlund at $2.5M may be worth a late 1st. Maybe. Granlund at $5M may not even be worth 1 2nd.

Just because Utah has cap space and a bunch of picks doesn’t mean they’ll overpay in trades.

At least get the projections right. Substantially off on a bunch of guys.

Prioritize Jarvis and Guentzel and then figure out the rest. Have 3-4 rookies ready for the jump to offset and bring ELCs. Skjei turbo and a couple others deserve a raise and will probably walk. Plenty of flexibility and options to surround core. Guys leaving for FA after deserving a raise is normal in cap era, teams have to be able to adjust and identify new talent - none of the true core (Aho Jarvis Svech Slavin) will get away.

Let’s put Pesce in other terms. Why would he go to a bottom dweller with nice weather for 12M (pretax in a horrendous tax state) versus get 30-40M elsewhere? Would you live in California for 3-4x less salary than 10-15 other cities in the country? Didn’t think so, be logical.

Yeah taxes yada yada, Weather + icetime like no other place, Sharks could go right ahead and pay him $8m I'm not saying any of these are slam dunks or that any are even legit, I just thought it'd be interesting.. You canes fans are a salty bunch aren't ya? Touch a player on that roster and it's war lol. It's the offseason now boys go lay down.

Nobody is salty. A lot of those guys deserve to get paid and if that’s what they want to do more power to them. My point is they’re not going to take less than they can make in total to go to a bottom dweller bc there’s good weather there. There’s good weather in a lot of places that contenders play. If sharks came out and overpaid substantially that’s a different convo.
