Still Need a RHD (trade with Carolina)

Description
I still don't see a player on the Sabres that can play the shutdown shot suppression defenseman in Housley's system (think Ekholm). Lets say for a second that Antipin becomes a competent 3rd pair with PP upside but struggles in his own zone (like Zaitsev) and Bogo makes no progress under Housley. The second pairing RHD spot is still VERY thin. Pesce is a great shot suppressor and paired with McCabe can form a nice young second pair that can support in many situations such as giving Risto more OZS to greater utilize his skill. Losing Nylander and Kane within 6 mos of each other would stink but having Mittelstadt in the pipeline helps and I'm also assuming Bailey/ Baptist can grab that last LW spot that's up for grabs this year.
-------------
I just kind of picked PIT and VGK as trade destinations and gave an estimated value of each player. Please don't crucify me.
-------------
FWIW bridging Samson with a contract that brings the Sabres after Moulson and Pommer come off the books is pretty much the key to this, as Pesce is RFA at the same time. I don't think I'm too far off in my contract estimations. For this exercise I assume Baptiste wins a job this year and puts up like 16-18G.
--------------
I'm higher on Linus than most, I admit that, but for 750k cap hit I think he has the best value. I wouldn't feel great at G, but looking at the rest of the roster I'd be plenty ok with it.
-------------
Thoughts always welcome.

Some good thoughts. Kane if he continues play could be valuable piece at TDL. Not sure if Vegas is the destination for Lehner...they already have 5.75m Fleury, but if a contending team need a goalie, maybe Lehner is the guy that good use. Until Nylander proves himself, don't think he gets Pesce....but they might be deal with Canes as you suggest.

Reading your description I understand what you did, but PIT wouldn't have room for Kane, and wouldn't give up a 1st for another winger when we still need to fill center positions. It would require exchanging cap hit and Kane is know to have a problem with authority ... something the pens wouldn't likely take on since we've already got a Phil Kessel ... not to mention UFA at seasons end.

      Trades.... ok, I guess
Although I think we should do better trading Kane

      I like the defense...
but I'd love to know what u see in Brycen Martin?
He was so terrible last year,
that he was sent down to the ECHL
And he played like crap there too
      Something like -13
Idk that he can even be a good AHL player,
      Let alone an NHLer
He'd have to take amazing strides...
      and doing it so quickly?
      I just don't see it

You're also expecting too much of Mittelstadt too soon
1 & done in college is certainly possible
But straight to Jack's wing on the top line?
Pretty rare that kid's can do that
No need to rush his development
