Description

I received some good feedback on my first team in this series so I'm gonna keep going with it.

First look at the Coyotes: Obviously, we all know the Arizona Coyotes are a rebuilding team with a bunch of young talent. But believe it or not, this team looks really deep on paper, they just don't produce in real life. But with new faces like Dylan Strome, Brandon Perlini, Derek Stepan, Niklas Hjalmarsson, and Antti Raanta could turn this franchise around. The forward group is decent, and the D corps is really good. The goalie tandem could prove to be deadly. The one thing that I notice is missing for a playoff team is a 2nd line right winger. Well, that's what the trade will be for.

The trade: Connor Brown for Jamie McGinn ($ 1,500,000 retained) and a conditional 2nd round pick in 2019. The condition is is Connor Brown scores 25 or more goals in the upcoming season, the Leafs will receive the 2019 1st instead of the 2nd. The leafs are going to do great this year, and they have plenty of good young talent to ensure that. But Brown is still unsigned, and unless the Leafs plan on either, trading, or not playing one of their current young 3rd line players in that role, they'll have to trade Brown. They need guys like Hyman, Soshnikov, and Kapenen to play. They all are too good to play on the 4th line, and and Connor Brown will get the most back for them. I'd say a potential first and a bottom 6/ depth player is pretty good for a guy who could force a capable player out of a roster spot. The Yotes get their 2nd line winger who can produce points.

How will the Yotes do: I'm saying the Yotes are going to be just outside of a Wild Card spot at 4th or 5th in the division. Most likely, the Central division will have 5 teams make the playoffs this year, and more are capable. This is why I have Arizona missing the playoffs, despite bringing in so much good to their roster.

Your Leaf logic, or lack of always amazes me. So what if Brown still unsigned. There are other teams with unsigned RFAs, but they don't give them or are in panic. And please don't compare what Brown has done to the Soshnikov and Leivo or Kapanen. Soshnikov is more of fourth line plugger who can still be sent to the Marlins waiver free. Even Kapanen can be sent to the Marlies. But somehow your trade has McGinn making the team?
The Leafs forwards aren't that great that they have to worry about players getting playing time. No productive player is going to get cheated out of playing time. Gee they finished 15th overall last year, they didn't win the Cup.

Yeah I really don't see a fit for McGinn on the Leafs at all even throwing in the pick! Brown may have the best 200 ft. Game on the Leafs! He will continue to grow adding more PP time to go with his PK! I find it hard to see your points when it comes to comparison. I do see the Leafs possibly moving a couple of the players you mention but for a far greater return.

when confronted with a logical argument you fib to justify your stance. you implied that the leafs don't have room at room but still you claim reider is 6 to 9 forwards. then he's just depth on 3/4th line. well if he's even on the fourth line it's called starter. but you "best" argument to the leafs clearing. their forward logjam is that reider won't even make the team. great so the leafs trade a starting forward for a non nhler.
must say it is one of your better thought out rosters, still quite meaningless.

Which means that if there is an injury, he can come and play. Also, it's McGinn, not Rieder. And the 2nd is conditional like I said, it would be very likely that Brown scores 25-30 goals thus meeting the requirements. That's a first and a depth player for a guy who can potentially force a guy out of the line up. You are missing the entire point of the trade. However, as I stated before, Toronto cold get more from another team.

Not a terrible idea, but not one I'd be interested in as a Yotes fan. That's a hefty contract for Brown with a good bit of risk.

Why not just sign Vanek if they feel they need a 2nd line right wing? Fischer is also ready for an extended look, so they could look internally, especially in a year that, as you say, is probably not a playoff year. They're hoping this is the last year of the rebuild, so why not try out the whole crop of young players and keep the pick?
