Description
Add a RHD, 3, maybe 5, potential C who play W all with nice 2way skill sets. add a little depth

Florida ...
Kessel NMC might keep the deal from happening. Not sure if the value is there. Kessel is the best player in the trade at this point in time, and should be for 3-4 more years. Torcheck is the second. I figure Torcheck and Pysysk are close to Kessel value 4th other pieces seem about equal. considering Sceviour is a UFA at seasons end. Would be willing to replace the 3rd for 2nd ... Don't think FLA wants to move Torcheck though.

Torcheck replaces Kessel on PP, and could play on lines 1-3 at C or on the W, replaces Crosby or Malkin if they get injured. Pysyk gives us a capable RH D. McCann is still a prospect, not unlike Pouliot though a little younger, because I don't ask for a pick but would consider a pick instead. Sceviour is a versatile 2 way depth forward, which makes me more comfortable trading Wilson.

VGK ...
Hagelin value is the highest, IMO, because of his deadline deal value. He's got a TON of playoff experience with PIT and NYR, world class speed, and great on PK, in addition to potential offense (he had a lot of points with on the HBK line). He's only slightly older than Haula, but has a much better resume. Wilson put up pts similar to Haula and won a cup, which should give him value to play or be moved at the deadline as well. I think Hagelin and a 3rd are enough for Haula, and Wilson has slightly more value than Reinhart (who's still a work in progress), so the deal should be about even.

Haula replaces Hagelin on LW on 2nd-3rd line and on PK, and could slot as C when injuries occur. Reinhart might be able to come along to replace Cole, should PIT lose him as UFA, as well as provide some depth at D.

Winnipeg ...
I think Lowry and Maatta are close in value. Enstorm is declining and Maatta is a good young replacement who might pair nicely with Trouba, etc. Maatta has 2 cups so I figured ask for something more, but would gladly let the picks go the other way. I'd even swap the pick for a prospect.
Lowry is a big physical, net front, PKer ... really like Lowry for the 3C spot but he could play LW, with Haula or Torcheck at 3C..

Carolina ...
Trade gives CAR some cap space and 2nd to chase another player (I believe their self imposed cap is $60-65m). They might be able to go after Duchese, or Nuggent Hopkins, or eat up some other teams cap for a vet player and collect thier picks and prospects, etc. Gives PIT a better back up IMO. I think Murray/Ward is a great tandem and like Wards experience better than Niemi, who's just alright, but done well with great teams. Ward basically was Murray, so he might be able to mentor a little better and Rutherford's ties to CAR seems to make them a likely trade partner.

Trades also leave $3m in cap for deadline deals if needed.

Kessel might score more points but he it is questionable if he would be the best player in the deal, especially when removed from Pittsburg. Seem like a big overpayment in talent and cap to for one NHLer. Pouilet despite all the trades on this site is not an NHLer.
Haula is better and cheaper than Hagelin, so why do we get on seeing these Hagelin deals? If Jets likes Maatta long term, the Jets trade seems very reasonable.

So you don't know about Kessel in BOS and TOR? He was more of his teams offense than any player in the league and putting up similar or even better numbers than he does in PIT, where he's played most often on the 3rd line over the past 2 seasons. $6.8m for a top 10-15 player in the league is steal. Pouliot is a prospect, which is all McCann is as well. 23 yr old D prospects are usually still trying to get into the NHL, especially on Cup winning teams. What would your counter offer be?

Haula might be, but Hagelin is worth more at the deadline. He's been there and done that. He's a 28 yr old vet ... Haula is a 26 yr old who puts up similar numbers to Hagelin. He might be talented but he didn't win a better spot in MIN and Vegas isn't really building a team right now. They're acquiring assets that they will build a team with. I also add Wilson and a 3rd, which is far more than Reinhart is worth, so that should make up a difference in value. If you don't agree then whats would your counter offer be?

Ess. Vegas will still have to put a NHL team on the ice this year. They have ton of picks so adding 3rd rounder or so is almost meaningless to them. I'll stick my opinion that Hagelin and his six goals is no way worth his 4m salary. If he is of such value, why do Pens fans keep on trading him?
Pouilet is working himself to a suspect not prospect. Lot of teams of AHL prospects too, I just don't think there is value in trading for one.
Yes, I saw Kessel in Toronto. Don't be fooled by his goal production. For long stretches especially late in his Leaf career his was a poor NHL player. No effect in defensive zone (when he was there). Just pass the puck to me.
I'm saying Phil is in the ideal spot for in Pittsburg. He'll never be better. Trading him to a non contender and without winners prodding him, his production and overall play will decline drasticallyIMO
Trochek was just signed to nice deal with Florida and you want an NHL Dman a better prospect in McCann than Pouilet. I just don't think teams, I wouldn't would trade for Phil. He played at his level with the Pens and he when his production declines he might turn to his sulking , disinterested ways as he did with the Leafs.

Vegas is getting 2 NHL forwards to put a team on the ice. They've been saying they need to build through the draft. A 26y old 4th line player from another team isn't going to make or break them. If they're looking at their team this year when trading then they have no future. A 3rd round pick has the potential to be anything from a bust to a super star player. It's an asset. They traded Methot for 3rd and prospect that's projected not to make the NHL. That 3rd meant something.

Hagelin is being shopped because he has value but is expendable when we have 12 forwards who have won Stanley Cups. You do realize CHI traded Panarin, Hjalmarsson, Shaw, Ladd, Versteeg, Saad, Leddy, Byfuglien ... Were all those players bad? No. but when you look at the rooster he's the obvious man to trade because of his age, salary, and the fact that PIT is very deep at that position. Do you trade Rust, who's on a entry level deal or Hagelin who's older and making more? His injuries this past year showed us that he is expendable on this roster and other players could fill his role. His value at the deadline is probably two 2nd rd picks, or a 2nd and a 3rd ... at least in most years. This draft is supposed to be pretty deep, but Vegas has the Cap space to retain salary, asking for more in picks and potential for cap hits, and not hurt the fact that they will not make the playoffs for 3-5 yrs minimum. They have a bunch of quality forwards (many UFAs they might not be able to move), and a ton of defense man. How many Stanely Cup champions do they have? You might not see the value in that, but many teams do. Especially at the deadline.

"...especially late in his Leaf career ..." Toronto had who playing with him? That teams was crap from the net out. FLA is better than TOR was for all those years. Huberdeau, Barkov, and Ekblad would have been considered SUPERstars in TOR 3 years ago. He was their only hope of offense on that team, and even with taking games off he was more offense for his teams than any other player in the league. I'd be disinterested in playing with the Leafs during his time ... look at your tag. "longtimeLeafsufferer" ... you just watched the team. He was on the team, listening to fans ***** about his play (putting up 60-85pt a season) when the entire team sucked. He could give 120% every single night and those teams would still lose because they stunk. Some marriages end in divorce ... especially when there is no support. The city and the Leafs organization deserves at least half the blame for Kessel's short comings.

You're complaining about the performance of a guy who was playing for nothing. In the regular season many stars don't give it their all, because the games really don't matter. Crosby and Malkin used to score 120 pts, have 4 pt nights every other game, and now they save it for the playoffs ... and win cups. They take time off during the regular season because they just need to make the playoffs.

FLA is on the verge of the playoffs. Adding Kessel and signing a guy like Iginla might be all they need. TOR needed to bomb year after year to build through the draft ... which takes me back to the my point about Haula/Hagelin and Vegas and building through the draft ...

What would the counteroffers be?
