I'll fix this for you -Habs fan

Description
And you've still got a ton of cap space to spare...

- Jagr is meant to mentor the youth. With all that cap space, you can sign him for 4m x 2yrs if that's what it'll take to convince him.
- The others I kept (Abdelkader, Nielsen, Tatar, Zetterberg, Sheahan) are because they're either on untradeable contracts, or they're your star captain, or I still have hope in their young selves. They will also help steer the youth, and in any case, it's not like you have many players to call up if I traded them.
- My main intention was to nab good draft picks and completely shake up the D with some younger players. If they don't pan out, it's fine, because the next wave of newly drafted D will follow them.
- I think there's a good chance someone says that's not enough to nab Haydn Fleury. While that's possible, unproven players don't typically cost gold. However, the return of Nyquist should be promising for them, and he can produce some offense. Worst case, we can up it to Nyquist+2x2nd. (also yes, I see that typo. It's CAR* not COL)

- MAJOR UPDATE: After further review, I seem to have been wrong about the Maatta for Helm(1.35m retained) trade. I've fixed it now.

- I've also opted to trade away Franzen to a team who can use his LTIR status, à la Coyotes. You won't be needing that room anymore with rookies instead of overpaid veterans.
- While we're at it, I traded for Brown as another creative cap trade. You have the space now. Save the Kings and get paid for doing it.
- You may ignore the last two trades. They're so speculative and incredibly difficult to value (because these sorts of trades are rare) that they're not worth arguing on. I could easily go on and reverse the trades and still have embarked on a good rebuild.

1.
DET
  1. 2019 1st round pick (PIT)
PIT
  1. Green, Mike
Additional Details:
Chosen team is arbitrary. Any playoff team with a need on D will work.
2.
CAR
  1. Nyquist, Gustav
  2. 2018 3rd round pick (DET)
  3. 2019 2nd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Bolstering COL's top-6, they have the cap space for 2 years. Might give them the push necessary to become a playoff wildcard team.
3.
DET
  1. 2018 1st round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Late first round pick exchanged for early 2nd round pick and early another 3rd. Kronwall used as tool for uptrade.
CHI
  1. Kronwall, Niklas ($2,375,000 retained)
  2. 2018 2nd round pick (DET)
  3. 2020 3rd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Kronwall as 5D. Shouldn't cause cap issues since his contract comes off the books just on time for Panik, Schmaltz, and co.
4.
DET
  1. 2018 3rd round pick (COL)
COL
  1. Ericsson, Jonathan
  2. Witkowski, Luke
  3. 2018 5th round pick (DET)
5.
DET
  1. Lindgren, Charlie
  2. 2019 3rd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
This trade is just gravy. It seems likely that Lindgren will become a good NHL goalie very, very soon. He already seems ready for the backup role. Have him back up Howard until his contract expires, and then he takes the mantle.
MTL
  1. 2018 2nd round pick (OTT)
6.
DET
  1. 2018 2nd round pick (BOS)
BOS
  1. Mrázek, Petr ($2,000,000 retained)
  2. 2019 3rd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Tuukka can't do it all on his own and needs help, and this could create a solid tandem for BOS. Better than the shaky backups they have now.
7.
DET
  1. 2019 4th round pick (PIT)

Additional Details:

Your trade for Maatta is a joke. Compare him with Helm is an offense to any Pens fan.

Eh....I wouldn't want to give up a 2nd round pick here, but the idea is good. Mrazek is coming off a horrid season, but has shown solid goaltending in the past. If you could do a 2018 3rd, it'd be worth considering for Boston. I understand he's retained.

I don't know bud. I constantly see Maatta be compared to a bag of pucks in Pittsburgh... At least you got someone who can experience a rebirth as Bonino did.
EDIT: It's also a cap dump in your favor. Got rid of 4M, got veteran 3C at 2.5M for only 2 years. If you would prefer Maatta for Nielsen with no retention, I'll give it to you in a heartbeat.

You do realize the difference between a BOS 2nd and the DET 3rd you're getting back with Mrazek will be around 15 picks or so? I think it's fair to nab Mrazek at 2M for a 15-picks drop in the draft board.
The alternate, of course, is to trade Mrazek (50% retained) for a 3rd and 4th, but then DET will easily be on the losing side of that trade.

They are not real Pens fans and thank god none of them are our GM. I'm sure that a great GM like Rutheford is far from think like them.

Maatta had some injuries indeed, but most of the time he's lost was because of a tumor. It's cruel with a so talented kid that breaks through a terrible disease like cancer be treated this way.

He's 22 talented, resilient and poise d-man with a great upside and dump him now it'd be one of the stupidest things that our team could do. As I said, a great GM like Rutheford certainly won't do that.

Maatta really deserves credit and time to keep developing all his potential.

Hmmm, that's actually interesting to know, thanks!
In that case, if your GM feels the same way, modify the trade to Helm (1.35M retained) for a 2019 4th.
FYI I just realized Helm has 4 years left, not 2. That does lower his trade value considerably... Would make a Maatta trade impossible, even with 50% retention and even if he had lost PIT's trust. Hence why in the trade correction above, I ask for a 2019 4th instead of a 2018 3rd.

The Dallas trade would never happen. Dallas is over cap and contracts taking on another contract they can't do right now. Plus they need cap space next summer which you don't get on LITR. Also no team pays to take on cap hit. You pay to get rid of it. I get what you were trying to do but it just can't work like you think.

I just checked the numbers here: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/86344
You're right. I was mislead by CapFriendly's depiction of the Stars cap space, because they iced 24 players instead of the maximum 23 here: https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/stars
Thus, we can completely cancel that trade and assume it never happened. Doesn't really change much in the grand scheme of things (we move back to 2019 draft but much higher pick, and we don't get Bystrom)
