Any particular reason the Rangers would be looking to trade their Captain for another defenseman? That seems to be a strength for the team right now, I would think they'd look to address their need for a Center or moving Marc Staal. Do you feel like Lowry is the replacement they need? A core "shakeup" took place with Stepan and Girardi ... trading the Captain while you're at it seems like a mighty bold move.

Very fair trade. I think McDonagh's 10 team NTC would include Winnipeg though.

If the Rangers are starting over? Probably a done deal. But they seem to be retooling on the fly, not sure this would make them a better team today by trading their captain and best dman. That being said, Trouba is definitely on his way to a great career in the future if all falls as it should.

As said above, McD isn't waiving to go to Winnipeg.

From the Jets' standpoint, why do I want to do this?

I think Cheveldayoff would want Brady Skjei instead.

You're right Rangers are alway in the win mode now. Skjei and someone might make the deal viable for Jets.

In what world would the Jets want Skjei over Mcdonagh?

It isn't would you like, it's what can obtain. If Jets were to trade Trouba for futures, Skjei wouldn't be a bad start.

More specifically, it isn't saying that Skjei is better than Mcdonagh right now, it's which player is a)obtainable and b) which player makes sense moving forward (age, contract etc etc). Skjei probably makes more sense in a deal like this that Mcdonagh would. I personally don't want to trade either of them, but I imagine I feel the same way if I am a Jets fan and watch Trouba play everyday.

I could have my arm twisted:

Skjei

If you're trading for Trouba then the Rangers are going "all in". With that ... McD is more important now than Skjei. Not sure they would look to do that move. I'd see them hoping to pair Trouba WITH McD ... not swapping. On the flip side, WIN has 4 D-Men already making over 5m with McD due for a raise that should easily fetch him over 6m ... maybe approaching 7m.
