Getting younger

Description
So yeah, Perry probably wouldn't waive his NMC for ARI, but humor me. I feel like the return for Arizona is there though, giving them top line talent at RW since they're far more loaded with promising youth at C and LW.

Karlsson fills the 3C void until Sam Steel is ready

Cogs leaves to clear room for youth, and I hate seeing players stay up until they're FAs and leave for nothing.

Landeskog seems prime as a "buy low" candidate right now. I paid what I think is a little more than he's worth (especially after that god-awful season) for the salary retention in return.

I feel like this would be one of the deepest teams in the league, still loaded with high-end talent in the top 6.

Edmonton has no interest in cogs. He was part of the the very first oilers attempt at rebuilding the team which obviously didn't work out. Plus his 3 mill isn't that enticing for a third line player.

I don't get the trades honestly (outside of Edmonton):

Why would Arizona give up a ton of control of Duclair (who had 40+ points 2 years ago) and Crouse (who is just 20), for Perry's big contract. Perry is still a good player, but he's coming off a down year with just 53 points and only 19 goals in 82 games last year. At $8.6M a year for 4 years that is a lot of risk Arizona is assuming. Arizona paid less for Stepan and he's younger, and $2.1M a year cheaper. While Perry might slightly out-produce him over the next 4 years it will be close. Also, Arizona got 1 year of Raanta in the deal who may take over their starting goaltending duties this year.

Vegas- Karlsson has 3 years of cheap control, it's likely going to take more than a 2nd and 4th to get him. Maybe not a ton more, but I think maybe a pair of 2nds would be the asking price.

Colorado- Why would Colorado sell low on Landeskog? He's young, under control for 4 more years at a price they can easily afford given their cap space. There is no reason for them to trade him when his value is at the lowest. Maybe they do consider trading him at the deadline or next off-season, but that would only be if he's value is back to the promising young wing who can put up 55-65 points (if not more).

Cogs actually plays on the Ducks' 2nd line. And yes he costs 3m, but EDM isn't cap strapped at all this season, and he has 1 year left on his contract so that isn't at all a problem for EDM. He brings great work ethic and high caliber penalty killing. Those would both help EDM

Potentially because then Duclair had like 20 points last season. They're on the verge of being very exciting to watch and Perry will help with that. They also have a surplus of players who play the position that Crouse does, and are weak at RW, so Perry addresses that with a veteran presence. I don't disagree there's a high likelihood they'd say no to the trade though, just an idea. Karlsson isn't worth 2 2nds, if that was the ask no team would take it, but for a 2nd and a 4th I think that'd be tempting at least

True.. I just like the idea of building up a younger core with aging players. Especially since the D is still so young.
