That's a lot of money and term you just gave out. Doesn't look like a fix to the cap problem to me. Trading Sheahan, Green, and Howard is small potatoes. Their contracts all expire soon enough. The real cap problem in Detroit is Abdelkader, Helm, Glendenning, Ericsson, and DeKeyser. They're all still there.

Nothing wrong with the signings/trades you suggested. But after it all you have like two and a half million in cap space and a roster that's almost all locked up long-term. You better hope this roster can compete, and I don't think they would with that blueline.

AA said no to 1.8 for a one year deal this year-- he'll probably get more than 2.1 for this year alone, let alone next year if he improves yet again.

Don't know if green would merit a first round pick in this years draft-- it's pretty deep and green is not the best in his own zone--

larkin deal is not going to happen at that price and term. it will be either similar to the deal zibanejad got (5.3x5) but if he is going to sign for 8 years i can see him pushing for 7 since you are buying out some UFA years..

overall it doesn't look like this fixes the issues detroit has.. they tried a retool and it failed. they are going to get worse before they get better. this isn't a team that will compete in the playoffs

Curious, what comparable can be made for Larkin getting remotely close 7M per year?

This roster does have cap space because it is set up to secure the future. Zetterberg will retire the following week year. Ericsson could be bought out. This roster is built to ride out the storm.
