Is This Enough For Doughty?

Created by: Laynious

Description
I know the Leafs aren't trading for Doughty. I am wondering if this trade is anywhere close to a fair deal in the eyes of non Leaf fans. Here is why I chose who I did:

Liljegren - Blue Chip defence prospect to replace the departing Doughty

Kapanen - Because JVR probably won't stay and this along with the 1st is that insurance policy.

JVR - isn't going to re-sign here. But LA could move him at the deadline and get a nice haul for their rebuild

Too much. Take out jvr if your not going to value him. I'd rather keep Liljegren and try to sign doughty as a ufa. Also this upcoming yr there will be some good RHD that we may draft anyways. Merkley may go in the mid first round.

JVR is basically there to offset salary and provide value to LA.....personally I would hate if the leafs made this trade. Just looking to see what the value is

Liljegren + 1st get the conversation started.
Not sure if the Kings are interested in JVR -- there's always lone scoring wingers available for cheap, so they probably don't buy one at the peak of his career when they missed the playoffs last year.

The way to think about it is name the top D the Leafs drafted. From Kaberle drafted in 1996 to Rielly drafted in 2012, that's a 16 year gap. It takes a lot of chances and failed attempts to come up with one Drew Doughty.

He's won cups with LA, his peak years are still ahead of him at 27 but he's played 9 seasons in the NHL. So LA and him might be willing to allow a trade to Toronto, and Toronto wouldn't have to pay the full replacement cost of a young Doughty at the draft.

Marner + 1st + Liljegren would be something closer to what both sides could live with. Liljegren's not ready for the NHL this season, so a depth roster D like Corrado would have been a good add if you still had him, I guess Carrick is the new Corrado.

Remember "Leaf's 1st" today no longer equals Matthews, it's in the back half of the first round so it's what you used to think of as your 2nd round pick (Matt Finn, Travis Dermott, Yegor Korshkov)

Yeah, I think this is fair value for remaining two years of an elite dman like Doughty. JVR would likely test FA anyways, so he's not much value in the deal. Depending on cap, Leafs could probably keep him to play out his contract.

LA will be evaluating their place in the West all year, and Doughty has already started to be vocal about leaving if they don't point in the right direction. Good chance they miss the playoffs this year.

The biggest issue with this becomes balancing the cap with Doughty's next deal ($9M), Matthews ($10M), Nylander ($7M), and Marner ($7M).

That's Marleau contract really hinders things.
