Even rentals can get pretty expensive. Hawks gave a 1st rounder for Vermette. I think Staal...with cap reduction...will garner more than Vermette.

I agree with zachary about Staal. But you're right exo, about silly season at trade deadline. Mike had some Red Wing trades. Mike Richards could be a really good short term rental, if the Wings think they're no longer in the Stanley Cup hunt.

A guess the debate is whether Eric Staal is difference maker now. Phil Esposito scored 100 points a number of times but I wouldn't want him on my 2016 NHL team. I'm being sarcastic, but does Staal fit into that category?
