Pt 1: 2017-18 Leafs LTIR/Excess Bonus Year

Created by: Billius
Team: 2017-18 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 11, 2017
Published: Oct. 12, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Leafs are using both of their LTIR's this year for a total of $10.55M in potential cap relief. They currently have $4.55M of cap space available with Rosen on the roster.
Rosen's cap hit includes his ELC bonus because of the complexities of LTIR relief and bonus limits.
Because Leafs have used LTIRs, the full Performance Bonuses earned will need to be paid out of next year's Cap, estimated at $5.4M.

Thanks for this. With the carryover next year, and Leafs wanting to have zero carrying over into 2019/20, appears to me, no cap to sign JVR, or Bozak or even a trade to acquire good veteran Dman.

Palhal, after some discussion this week about whether Leafs should sign JVR and whether there was even cap room, I decided to write an article walking through how it could theoretically be done. I'd be interested in your thoughts and anyone else's.

JVR, Jake, Patty and the Winding Road to 2019
