Dont think you are a Leafs fan...sounds like you are more of a NHL fan as leafs fan would probably go crazy saying over payment.
I think its a great trade.

@henryp No effectively i'm not a leafs fan but i really think too that's a good trade for both side and that's the real value of Doughty.

There is no chance that the Leafs would trade Marner and Reilly for Doughty.

of course no other team would offer so much for just one year of doughty, but the leafs have to endure these never ending trades. can't see why the leafs would trade one of their top d just to get another back. bracco, liljegren, jvr on the team next year, unlikely

LOL. Here goes leafs fan thinking Reilly is a Doughty. If leafs could trade a RW (which they have lots of) and trade Reilly to get one of the best D man then this team is that much better. DO NOT COMPARE REILLY TO DOUGHTY.

I don't he compared Reilly to Doughty. But isn't it ridiculous to trade one good man for a very good one? In the total scheme, it doesn't upgrade the Leafs that much, cause now the Leaf really have to replace Rielly. And of course I would just love to some Doughty trades to other teams. There doesn't seem to be any....Why ?

Hi Palhal,

Thanks for your input as constructive criticism, I welcome.

I am not sure how old you are but there use to be a time where one on one trade for similar kind of players use to be the norm and those are the best kind of trade to be made. The last best one on one trade was Suban and Webber as far as I can keep up. Now, there is no way Reilly can be the only one on one trade with player like Doughty (Yes, Reilly is good but Doughty is a different level altogether) so you need to give something else up with Reilly to even make it worth while for LA.
Now will this trade even take place... NO WAY, as far as LA keeps winning there is no way you can get a player like Doughty even if you give up Reilly and Marner so there is no point in that but this is a what if site so if LA goes back down and Toronto keeps on winning then trade like this is a big time possibility. (yes, there might be other parts added to make the trade happen but it would be a possibility for sure.)
Would you not say D core of Hainsey/Doughty, Gardiner/Zaitsev, Borgman/Polak/Carrick/Rosen is better already? I look at a player like Doughty and say this guy makes other player better around him.... would I say the same for Rilley right now? no way... the way I see it Hainsey has made Rilley a better player so far. Personally if I were to look at Toronto roster I would like to see Hainsey as a 3rd pair D but he has proven me wrong so far by keeping up with all the younger guys.

Henry: Read my profile for my age. But you can't compare this trade to the Weber/Subban. And it was a deal of two unwanted players. In that deal, equally (somewhat bad) money exchanged hands. And Montreal did get stuck with longer term on older player.
Leafs might be get the better deal for one plus years in this trade, but they still have to fill two holes while filling one. I know there is this illusion that a stud dman guarantees playoff success. Really? Hedman and Doughty missed the playoffs last year. Pietranagelo and his team has never had playoff success. I didn't say it was a bad deal but if the Leafs really wanted to do it, I would suspect they would prefer prospects (admitting Marner might be one). I'll agree with you, Doughty isn't going to be traded. Right or wrong he's the face of the franchise.
Hainsey, since he played the most minutes of any Pens Dman in the playoffs last year, he sorta has the pedigree. The Pens talk about a pretty no name defence that won the Cup. I believe it was Lou that commented on the signing of Hainsey. Leafs wanted him for puck retrieval in his own end, not to carry the puck.
I would really like to see Doughty traded to some other teams on CapFriendly. See what other contenders would give up and comments from their fans. But alas, their aren't any of these posts. It's the usual that the Leafs trade two or three regular NHLer for one that we'll see.
