Blockbuster trade!! Oh and a trade with Toronto

Created by: Pensfan89
Team: 2017-18 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 16, 2017
Published: Nov. 16, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Toronto gets is number 1 D that is a great puck mover, game changer, and can QB their top PP unit. Get a top RW prospect that can replace Marner in the near future. They get a 4th line center/RW. And get a net front presence for Matthews and a spark plug for the playoffs to get them over the hump of the 1st round. Plus a couple of picks. Pens get a solid 2nd pair D, much needed cap space for now, a stud RW to play with Crosby, a solid top 6 LW to add scoring depth.
Vegas gets a depth forward that is under control for 2 years and get rid of a rental depth defenseman on a horrid contract.

Toronto respectfully declines. Letang while a solid offensive force is simply not the type of Dman the Leafs covet and the above package is a HUGE overpay for an oft injured player on an albatross of a contract!
This is just another take on what was floated before (yesterday) by gpmack95, This is even worse, and that was so far off base!

The old line of # 1 D. Does anyone knows what that means? Pens won eight playoff rounds without Letang in the last two years. Letang leading the PP.? Leafs were # 2 overall last year in PP. This year # 7, Pens # 5, could Letang help that much?

They won 4, not eight, in the last two years, without Letang. The difference in those two championships is, the Penguins dominated everyone, including Tampa Bay in 2016. In 2017, they dominated no one for more than singular shifts. That difference should primarily be attributed to the absense of Kris Letang.

Considering it took Taylor Hall to get a defensemen that’s a 2nd pair dman at best for a lot of teams, I’d say it isn’t much of a huge overpayment at all. The Leafs are getting an upgrade at wing in Hornqvist over JVR for the playoffs and would be cheaper to re-sign, the leafs are getting the superior defenseman, they are getting a top 6 RW prospect, a solid 4th line center, a 2nd and a 3rd. Pens would be getting half a year of JVR, Mitch Marner, and a 2nd pair defenseman.

Absolutely, and it adds depth too. Also he can play like half the game which helps the rest of the defense. And true, we won last year without him, but that’s only because we added depth at that position in Hainsey and Streit. The pens got lucky last year tho. They defied the odds.
