The Top 10 Draft Busts of 2013

Draft Class: 2013

Description
For the purposes of this post, a draft bust is "a highly touted or highly selected draftee that does not meet expectations".

Rankings are based on how high the draft bust was selected.

If there is still hope for a draft pick from 2013 to turn things around, they are not included.

In order to officially declare a player as a bust, at least 5 years must have elapsed from the day of the draft in which such player was selected.

That means any decision on declaring a player that was drafted in 2017 or later would be premature.

Enjoy :)

Also Valeri Nichushkin, he absolutely sucked in Dallas to the point where they bought him out.

I didn't have him on this list for a few reasons.

1. Valeri had two decent seasons for the Stars in his rookie season of 2013-2014 and in 2015-2016.

2. Although I didn't say so here, a clear sign that a player is a bust is if he is never signed to more than a million per year.

Valeri was signed to around 3 million per year on July 1st, 2018 when he came back to North America to resume his NHL career.

3. One thing that I do say so here is, "If there is still hope for a draft pick from 2013 to turn things around, they are not included".

Valeri appears to have turned things around with the Colorado Avalanche.

I hope this helps smile

1. I guess, but his last season in Dallas was literally worse than any season Blake Comeau played

2. Fair enough

3. He’s obviously better in Colorado because it’s almost impossible to be worse than he was in his last years in Dallas, anyhow he won’t be anything more than a defensive 3rd liner

His contract history as well as what he did in Montreal, Arizona and Toronto over his career suggest he's not a bust.

Now that he's with Arizona again, there is still hope for him to turn things around.
