Love the idea of Huberdeau but yeah there's no way that trade happens. Starts with 7OA++
I like that you're trying Sam out at center, would be great to see how he plays with competent linemates

Edmonton would have to add if they want Kreider. I know the pick is 8OA but they're getting a solid goal scorer and those two pics don't make up for Lucic's horrible contract. You could get more value for Krieder in a separate trade.

I honestly totally forgot about Boqvist. Will he be ready next season? If not, the trade might make sense, though looking at it again now I do agree the value a little skewed towards Chicago.

+/- is a terrible stat. Doesn't account for the fact that he played on some of the worst teams of all time with zero help on defense, save for part of this year. He's physical and is a great power play producer- teams will pay up for that.

Sabres Offseason
You forgot to sign all of our RFAs, and I'd hope that after this season we find a way to ship out Scandella/Hunwick. There's no reason why Pilut should be a scratch on this team. Same with sitting Olofsson for Sobotka.
I like that the Eberle contract is short-term, seeing as the contracts we've signed other Islanders' forwards to have been disasters. I think he'll demand more money for that term though.

Nobody is paying Skinner $9 million (at least, nobody SHOULD). IMO he gets $8.5 million at the max even in free agency. His production over the second half of the season has dropped off massively and he's never hit 70 points in his career.

NYR ARI PIT trades revisited
I'm open to getting Namestnikov, but I really think Hayes is the guy the Sabres should target from NYR. Solid, decently fast center who puts up pretty consistent numbers and can help replace ROR on the PK. But if Botts is just going for speed right now, Namestnikov's a good option. I probably wouldn't give up a first for him though

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMTD</b></div><div>Is this opinion from your eyes or what you read? Guhle nor Nylander have done anything to convince me they will be good in the AHL much less NHL. Opps my math messed up I am really sorry about Eichel, thanks for catching such an egregious error. Nolan is the 13th forward who do you have replacing him, I think I said you can change the roster.
BTW did you look at the team, the bottom six is amazing and the top 6 are first rate.</div></div>
Guhle's Rochester stats: 50GP, 8G, 18A, 26PTS. Averaged 0.52 ppg which is very good for any ahl rookie, let alone a defenseman. The only time he has ever looked out of place in the AHL was for 4 games in the playoffs. He was one of our best defensemen this season, and if you can't see that then I don't know what to tell you. Nelson-Guhle was our best defensive pairing in the last month of the season.
Hagelin and Okposo (unless he somehow rebounds) are not first liners. Like the Rask move but don't think Carolina moves him for that little.
I also don't know why I keep seeing people give up assets for Grubauer. Sign an older goaltender in free agency to mentor Ullmark and call it a day.

Yeah that's fair. I wanted to include a pick because the Caps are getting the "best" player in Okposo and on top of that the Sabres are retaining, but I'd be okay with getting a third, or maybe a 2020 2nd instead

Detroit says no way. Larkin is their 1C, don't really have much center talent besides him, so it'd be a huge hole to fill. While it'd be great to see him with Eichel, realistically I think that conversation starts with Reinhart+.

Sabres pick 4
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shibbal18</b></div><div>May be the best of the second generation players other than Brett Hull; he usually leads his team whether it be BU, or the Team USA in all phases, but can be counted on to be a consistent physical presence. The nicest kid you would ever want to meet off the ice, but transforms when he skates onto the ice surface who refuses to let up, or stop being physically involved. He has great balance and solid skating abilities (with decent speed) and agility. He showed his ability in the World Junior U-20, where he won puck battle after puck battle and set ups a number of big goals besides late-game tying and winning goals in the round robin against both Canada and Slovakia. Combines his long stride with very good stick-handling prowess and long reach and is able to make time for linemates with his possessions. He is extremely creative and shows finesse in his set ups, but more importantly his demeanor is such that he takes the responsibility of winning on his shoulders. He has a high upside, not a limited ceiling that some suggest. Can dominate down low and between the dots, and retrieves pucks by way of physical checks and honest wall work. There are no warts in his game, and he has shown in college games that he can play and dominate against older more developed young men. He isn't the fastest player from a dead start, but good enough in a straight line to fill holes, block shots, and position himself as a threat in more ways than one. There is no denying by any scout that the offensive skills are ther, and will grow. No growth is necessary as a team guy and possible future NHL captain. When he is promoted to the NHL, he will be a plug and play stand alone player who can compete and win, no matter where/who he plays with. He is a player who never quits and wills his team to wins through his actions... sounds what the Sabres locker room is dying for IMO. Majority of his points are primary points as well which means its not his team mates carrying him but the opposite</div></div>
All good points. I definitely agree that the Sabres need a player like him, strong and physical. He's going to be a solid winger in the league, which the Sabres are desperate for. I just think picking him at 4 is a stretch. I don't think he's truly dominated in college as you suggest, but then again Mittelstadt didn't last year and looks to be good so far. I just see Tkachuk as one of the "safer" picks this year- nothing wrong with that, just not someone I would take that high. If we were in the 6-8 spot I wouldn't have a problem with it. I'm also not sold on the reports that say he's better than his brother- there were whispers of that when the Sabres took Nylander, and that was wrong (so far at least). As I said before, I'm sure Brady will have a successful career wherever he ends up. Personally I would take Boqvist at 4. As much as we need a scoring winger to play with Eichel, I'd argue that we need a high-end defensive prospect even more.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shibbal18</b></div><div>Dahlin, Svechnikov, and Zadina arent going to be there @ 4. Boqvist is hovering around 8-10, Hughes is too small, and i dont like Wahlstrom for the Sabres (just wasnt a fan watching him and I dont like off hand wingers, only doing it here to put the brothers on the same line). I agree with the others, I would trade down for Boqvist, depending what they get out of it, but people are just hating on Tkachuk because its the cool thing to do. He's been consistently projected top 4 all year for a reason.</div></div>
He's been consistently projected top 4 because of his name and his elevated stats from WJC playing with more skilled players in Mittelstadt, Bellows, etc. He's also dropped to 6-8 in more recent rankings. He's the oldest player in this year's draft, he isn't a great skater and hasn't had outstanding production at any level of play. Players like Boqvist, Hughes and even Wahlstrom have much higher ceilings than Tkachuk. He's going to be a good scorer in the NHL, but I feel like you have to draft for skill if you're picking that high.

Buffalo Blow It Up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BlacknGold4life</b></div><div>This team needs experience and leadership. Read RoR interview from today. Nobody even cared when they lost because it was normal. There aren't many options for this year but JC is going to be good for a while. He is like a Sergei Gonchar. As Dahlin gets experience and more ice time Carlson gets less. Mike Green will be gone by the time Dahlin or Middlestadt or Nylander get a big pay raise. If you suck like Buff, AZ, etc. you need to pay guys more. That is how you get anybody signed.</div></div>
That’s how the Sabres got into this mess though. ROR, Moulson and Okposo all signed big contracts with Buffalo, and the last two have fallen off a cliff (Moulson moreso). Even if you trade Moulson, we have basically no cap room, so I can’t see our GM spending lots of money on slower, older players. Lehner also won’t re-sign for that little, Reinhart will probably make closer to 4, and some of our other prospects (Bailey, Fasching, etc) aren’t signed.
