<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Octopus_Guy</b></div><div>I've been wanting an elite top line on the Wings for years &amp; this looks elite to me; the second line looks very good here too.
Even so it takes a deep squad to win a cup but I think the four forward lines look solid and the defense do as well.
I'm looking forward to see how Veleno &amp; Berggren progress in the NHL so I'd be sad to see them go but Eichel so I'd continue to follow how they do on Buf.

With wear and tear on goalies I'm not sure how well Bernier will be playing at age 35 but if he's still good I wouldn't mind him as a backup.
I feel like teams on a cup hunt need a rock of a goalie. I think of big timers like Vasilevskiy, Rask, MAF, Price. Maybe Grubauer could do it. Binnington did.

I think it's interesting that your year three has a lower cap hit than year two but I like that. Hopefully Rass plays well the next few years and Wings have to pay him more.
As long as Seider can be a top defenseman he will get PAID so they need cap for that the next year also.

This ACGM series of 3 years in a row probably took a bit of time but like you said it was a fun one so I appreciate you making it.
I'm sure some of the more serious people here on CapFriendly appreciated your disclaimer.

Afterthought:
This team could be even better if you factor in the Wing's 6th and 23rd overall picks they will choose this year (2021).

This ONE year took about 3 hours of non-stop work. So I'm glad someone appreciated it. Now I'll comment on a few points you made.

The top forward line, assuming Raymond develops and Vrana plays to his potential, has the potential to be a top line in the NHL, and I doubt they'd have trouble at least contending with the likes of Leafs/Oilers top lines.

The second forward line, in my opinion, very well may be a number 1/number 2 second line in the NHL.

The third forward line, is a bit weaker, I admit. Replace JFK with a William Eklund/Kent Johnson and that may be a pretty damn good 3rd line.

As for the forth forward line, it may not be a powerhouse 4th line, but I believe it would be a very good defensive 4th line.

I don't believe much needs to be said about the defensive core. Top 4 looks great. Bottom pair could be great too if Cholo can keep improving.

As for goaltenders, I believe Gru has the skillset to be elite with a good defense in front of him. With this defensive core, as well as the 2-way 2nd and 4th lines, he could very likely be good enough to steal some playoff games.

Now for the tough part. Cap. With $21m available for extensions for the following year, let's assume Stevie can talk Seider into a contract in the realm of 7 years/$7.5m AAV. So, 14ish million left to fill five roster spots. Now, let's assume Yzerman selects Sebastian Cossa at 23 this year. There's our backup. OR, maybe Bernier signs as a backup for 2 years at $3m each. So 4 slots. with $11m in cap space. Add in prospects that may crack the roster, including those yet to be drafted, and there's still cap space left to add crucial pieces at the deadline. There are cap questions here, for sure. But if ANY GM is able to talk players into taking less money for a Cup chance, it's Yzerman.

There's potential here. Do I think the Wings go out and get Eichel? No. Do I want them to? No. This was just a fun game of, "How can I make the Wings a contender as fast as possible?"

I think I did that as quickly, effectively, and as (semi-) realistically as possible. I really enjoyed this. And with my lifelong dream of being an NHL GM, (never gonna happen, I know), it was a fun exercise in asset management.

Edit:
You'll also notice, there isn't a single contract that extends past 2025-2026. The flexibility this offers is absurd in this era of uncertainty with the Cap. Hell, maybe after Eichel's contract runs out, Stevie can convince him to take a paycut as well in order to build a better team around him.

Regardless of the pieces in the Eichel trade, something I wonder about him getting traded to any team is if he will be the same player after he gets the surgery he needs.
I see a lot of trades on here where people trade like 3 or 4 1st rd picks + a star player or two and to me it seems like a lot to gamble on him coming back 100%.
I think and hope he comes back just as good it's just something I think about.

I understand not wanting to be with an organization because of management or because they are on of the worst teams in the league for years.
That said I don't like when guys publicly talk about wanting to leave... Especially the captain of the team.
When Larkin is asked about the team having a bad year he just says positive things about working harder, believing in his teammates and getting better next year.
He knows the Wings probably won't make the playoffs for a few years but he still lifts the spirits of his team.

So while I hope Buffalo gets a good return for him but I see negative aspects of it that drive down his cost a little bit in my opinion.

I like the way Cirelli plays it'd be cool to see him on the Wings.

I wish the Wings could get Dougie that cheap lol.

Even with all of these moves and getting that close to the cap I don't see this team as a cup winner unfortunately.
I could be wrong on that. My playoff bracket has been busted like crazy the past 2 years.</div></div>

I have posted year 2 of this ACGM here: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/467220

This is what I mean when I say the cap situation and youth allow for more than you may think..

I agree, the Defensive side of this is incredible. Both Wings need some work. The Center core here is what I'd be excited about. And when you factor in the "Long Term Outlook", the only players signed past 2023 are CORE pieces. Yzerman would be able to work his magic with the cap where it is. Not to mention, Eichel may be on LTIR all next year. Allowing the wings to "tank" for the stacked 2022 draft. Also, there's still a possibility that the cap begins increasing after next season. While this team may not be a cup winner, it has the pieces, youth, and flexibility to build one.
