trade with NJ and PHI
That leafs trade is awful for the Flames even if Coronato never develops into anything why would we take the full caphit and handcuff ourselves even more.

At this point I really hope you guys do but realistically retention would definitely be involved in a trade for Markstrom but if you guys think we’re accepting lowball offers don’t forget you guys were the ones desperate for him we didn’t start these discussions.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Riddick19</b></div><div>All good just throwing it out there.... But to consider this, Philly wanted Tyler Boucher 10th overall to take Mathieu Joseph last summer who had 3 years at $2.95M as payment to take the cap hit. Which is why I was throiwing it out there. It';s a steep price for sure, and a very good draft especia;lly if you're looking for defenseman. But to get out from $8M for 7 years.....Yopu'd have to give up siomething very valuable. But just looking for opinions thanks guys :)</div></div>
I can understand the sentiment but its not so desperate that we’re at the point of giving away potential franchise savers just to get rid of a mistake.
The team desperately needs a top 4 defenceman that could carry us into the future which in my opinion should be either Carter Yakemchuk or Zayne Perekh who are likely going to be available at that pick.
Makes more sense to hold onto Huberdeau and try to revive him so he can be traded for less when the cap jumps even higher soon.

Retooling quickly
Why does it have to be a quick retool?
The new arena won’t be ready until 2027 so it would be way smarter to just rebuild patiently instead of being idiots like we have in the past.

Devils hold all the chips so markstrom will be cheap. Your over paying for hague and markstrom but hey your just like fitzy CLUELESSS. Holtz had more pts than Tatar was playing good even tho the devils have a bunch of idiots running the time and Jack needs a full time center unless he magical becomes a 50%+ faceoff. Itll be pathetic to trad Holtz for markstrom but not for Meier YIKES. again stay of the drugs bruh. how much you giving hague in a new deal? you realize bahl is cheap and younger.</div></div>
You guys don’t hold all the chips with Markstrom it’s like you guys don’t think there are other teams desperate for a top 10 goalie to make a potential playoff run.
Basically it comes down to either you guys pay up whatever price is being asked for or run an Allen Kahkonen duo into next year and see how well that plays out.

No that’s just brutal stupidity to give up a top 10 pick and still retain nearly a quarter of his salary to play for someone else.
I’d rather just use that contract to hit the cap floor and ride it out.

I'm not seeing anything that would interest the Flames in that trade, a capdump goalie and a decent dman isn't what they're looking for, picks and prospects are the goal for a team entering a rebuild/retool.

Realistically there would definitely be some form of retention on the Flames part if management is willing, if not I fully understand not trading for him but if he can be had near 3 mil for the next 2 years I think its moronic for Devils fans to not see that he would be their best goalie since 2015-16 Corey Schneider.

Markstrom probably only ranks ahead of Gibson and Elvis for goalies I'd want. I'd rather Jarry over Markstrom. A goalie turning 35 is not a piece I'd spend a 1st on.</div></div>
Jarry? You mean the albatross goalie who's so bad Nedeljkovic has started the last 13 games over when the team is desperately fighting for the last wildcard spot? The one signed for 5.4 mil for the next 4 years and is so unplayable that he's being completely benched in the most important stretch of the teams season? That Tristan Jarry?
I can understand not wanting Markstrom at his age and price tag but my goodness you couldn't have picked a worse example and i'm really starting to think you guys are just gonna end up going into next season with Allen and Kahkonen hoping and praying for the best.

https://moneypuck.com/goalies.html
7th in goals saved above expected is a much better indicator of play than your cherrypicked stat of save % post tdl which is just beyond stupid.
Notice how Kaapo Kahkonen is ranked 57 in the entire league

But let's play- show me what you actually think Saros would go for in the summer in the last yr of his deal with his replacement definitely getting more starts.
Before yiu say Nemec, Mercer and our 24 1st or somergubg wacky, confirm ANYTHING like that has every been done before.
You'll probably find our Cory Schneider for 9thOA that became Horvat</div></div>
Lets ignore all that first of all are they even willing to trade him?
Look at Nashvilles history, they aren’t a weak team by any means and could easily load up in the offseason and make another run, you really think they’d trust a rookie goalie with starts on a competitive team?
No matter how great Askarov is, think about the fact that Saros backed up Rinne for years so why in the world would they be willing to trade away one of the best starters in the league?
The difference between all these goalies is the level of competitiveness of the teams, Boston and Nashville are both contending while the Flames aren’t which is why Markstrom is even being talked about.
I’d be beyond surprised if Saros isn’t resigned and ends up staying in Nashville so they absolutely wouldn’t trade him unless it was a wacky offer like you said.

Realistically Markstrom isn’t fetching a top 10 pick without something extra thrown in along with max retention
It would make more sense to give up the Vancouver pick and retain which even that might not get it done but it is much more palatable.

Its actually adorable that you think Nashville a team that is currently contending and is one of the hottest teams in the league would give up Saros for anything less than an absolute treasure trove of assets lol
By all means hold out for him if you want but when the price makes your stomach turn i’m sure you’ll change your tune 😜
