The Best Avs ACGM
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Anus_McLeod</b></div><div>I think the team needs Walker more than you do. If Kovacevic can be Manson lite, then I think that's enough. Basically it comes down to if Manson + Malinski > Kovacevic + Walker. Close call but I like the latter, and especially if Walker comes on a good deal.
Edit: Fair point about 3C. There are other options, one of which could be Trenin. Maybe even Kovalenko, although it's tough to say considering he hasn't played a single game yet.</div></div>
For me it's very much in the mix as to who is best to keep and who isn't. I have my favourites to keep, let go or trade but even then I can see the arguments for and against others. It's something of a headache but arguably a nice one to have for CMac & Joe. There's arguments to be made for keeping, trading or letting go any of a number of guys. I think playoff performance will be a key (and possibly determining) factor for both the various individuals and the team as much as potential returns in trades and potential internal replacements. My thinking is Manson & Kovacevic btw, a mix of the two options you give (with Malinski rotating in from the scratches). Personally if it weren't for the age factor I'd probably move Girard to keep Walker even though Walker is a righty as he can play left D as well. Girard also probably gives the best return in a trade for re-stocking. A lot of factors to consider.

Quite sure Flyers would decline. They value Laughton 1st+ (may it be realistic or not), and Manson wouldn't get that kinda return. And also don't think they want add another injury prone D, they have had more than enough injuries with D already.

That Mittelstadt contract is optimistic even if the Avs can get a good deal.
Habs don't make that trade and Avs need to add to the Philly trade (or just replace Manson).

The Best Avs ACGM
You've disappointed me in that Monahan wasn't re-signed by MTL and traded to the Avs for their first round pick in 2026.
Not sure whether MTL would have interest in Colton but Kovacevic is definitely a guy the Avs should be looking at imo but I'd probably pass on the Manson for Laughton deal from the Avs PoV and keep Manson if possible and maybe give Trenin a shot at the 3C job (I like Walker but I'd rather keep Manson's nastiness and physicality over 'more of the same' in Walker and not sure JK has the nastiness of JM). Trenin hasn't really actually played that much at C though even if listed as one (or at least he hasn't taken many face offs which to me means he hasn't played C much) but then the same was true for Colton prior to this year. Yakov has definitely been the most impressive of the 'deadline' additions for me so far, and has a rep for taking other young Russians under his wing and might just have Kovalenko actually on his wing too.

That's a fair trade offer for Kovacevic (value wise), but I don't think MTL would really want Colton.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Anus_McLeod</b></div><div>Do you think Colorado’s FO is dumb enough to lose Rantanen because they want to keep Manson, Walker, Drouin and Colton? Heck, even Girard or Lehkonen would go if needed.
They'll afford Rants. It just means they can't afford some of the other luxuries.
Caveat this comment with the following: IDK what your other conversations were. If someone was saying the team can afford to keep everyone, they are obviously wrong.</div></div>
It was more of the usual we've suddenly started seeing......the Avs can't afford Rantanen and so we'll offer pennies on the dollar.

The Avs can afford him they just can’t afford Walker and Drouin. Neither of which are going to be with the team next year. It’s not going to be easy or painless but it’s doable.
Top 10 players usually stay with their team.

Exactly, it was the cost of doing business and getting a 1st for Walker. Im probably wrong but I would guess that RyJo would have been ok to play if he was in the nhl. A lot easier to grind through or rehab an injury in 1st class than on a Greyhound/MegaBus

Struble also doesnt bring what Xhekaj brings and thats law and order on the ice, I doubt that 6'3 220 players would be afraid of 6 ft 200 Struble in a fight, but would be less inclined to fight a 6ft 4 230 Xhekaj, imo. Struble, Harris and Engstrom are the ones that dont fit long term imo.</div></div>
Seriously? For Lundell. 6'1 center picked 12th OA who plays a 200 ft game and has offensive upside for days, you won't trade a defender you plan to play on your 3rd pair because he can fight in a league where fighting is disappearing?

honestly i think trenin will be a rental. Doesn't change much and just gives us basically a couple mil to make an addition at the deadline, but i think it's a solid group.

An Optimistic Attempt
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Anus_McLeod</b></div><div>I don't agree with much of your comment. I think he's worth both the price and the salary. I may not have the right team though.</div></div>
Definitely not the right team. NSH has a lot of middle six center depth already (Sissons, Novak, Glass, Pärssinen). None of those guys cost as much as Colton. Sissons and Novak are better players. Pärssinen has a higher ceiling. Unless it's a bona fide #1, NSH likely isn't adding a center.
I think $4M is too much for a 30-some point 3rd line center, and a 2nd is too much to fill that role - unless the player coming in was either a standout in that role, and/or on a team friendly contract. I don't think either of those things applies to Colton. To each their own though.

Malinski seems to have taken a step back since returning to the Eagles; his production is down which is disappointing. Ideally, he would have built off his success in the NHL. That doesn't mean he won't get another shot but the Avs are very impatient with guys like him. But I do agree that Manson does have a "presence" around the puck, even if he makes mistakes and takes penalties. That being said, I do think they can find someone that may not be able to do what he does offensively but can be a good defensive stalwart.

I do think it's very unlikely Ritchie gets brought in next season; it sounded like they want him to go back to junior for one more year. I'm not sure he has anything left to accomplish there considering how good he was this season but, since they can't send him to the A if he truly isn't ready to be in the NHL in a significant role, they may feel like they have no choice but to leave him in junior for another year. I do think they should sign him so he's under contract and he can join once next juniors season is over.

Don't see Tampa being the spot for Josh. They aren't going to want that cap hit on the right side of their blue line. More pressing needs elsewhere on the roster.

NSH declines. Colton isn't really worth a 2nd, or $4M a season. The Preds have multiple call up options in the A, that should be able to match or beat Colton's production.

I would think a trade for Girard would be more akin to the Hronek trade were it to happen just for the sake of the discussion. I believe that was 17th OA and a 2nd for Hronek and a 4th.

25 years old, in my opinion he's an excellent top 4 dman. Term at a fair price. His numbers are excellent. Imo he would be a fantastic addition to NJD blueline and exactly what we need. If we can get him cheaper, sounds even better to me.
