Buffalo Sabres signed Victor Olofsson (2 Years / $4,750,000 AAV)
Wanted more term, but we also have an absolutely loaded winger situation, both in the NHL/AHL and the pipeline. This sets up a trade in a year or year+ at the TDL I suppose.

Buffalo Sabres signed Malcolm Subban (1 Year / $850,000 AAV)
It's a two-way deal, so he'll be our backup in the AHL with UPL as a starter. He's a fantastic teammate and locker room presence, so I'm more than okay with him being the one down with the kids.
Plus his singing voice easily makes it worth it. Best xNational Anthems/60 in the league.

Out Davidson-ing the Coyotes
This will be a bloodbath once the other Sabres fans find it, just a heads up.
Couture is likely outside our window so we're not likely to be interested in spending our brand new, shiny prospect on it. Also his contract is pretty huge and while I hope not, will likely be a net negative towards the end. We have a lot of big contracts to hand out during that time (Dahlin, Cozens, Thompson, Samuelsson, Power + likely Quinn and Peterka if they keep tearing it up).
Interesting idea though, I hope SJ turns it around because I loved Grier during his time with us.

Pilut doesn't sign here to play in the AHL.
I think Blueger is a fantastic bottom six center, but I think this team can only sustain one addition to forward and even then that's cutting it close. I see absolutely no reason why Krebs should be in the AHL, he has some of the best vision I've seen on our team since Reino at least, and he'll only get better with more experience against NHL defenses.
Goalie is fine. We're not trying to sort out our starter for the next decade; they're already in the pipeline imo and we just need a reliable goalie to keep the young forwards and dmen feeling confident. It'll likely be a committee situation where UPL is up for some games too and all three play 20+ games.

Is it just me, or wasn't Power-Joki pretty good in the four-ish games they had together?
I think it's a make-or-break year for Joki and Mitts. It's probably gonna be another season of *vibes* and seeing how well the young guns do, so I'm okay with keeping both on for a full season and seeing if they can improve any further. Mitts especially, he's managed .5ppg for the past two years despite very stop-start seasons and constantly shifting linemates, and I think with a consistent run of 50+ games he could finally find that next gear we've seen in flashes.

Are you aware of the fact that we're struggling to hand out enough money to reach the cap floor? Also, the people who signed for league min last year is like Matt Irwin, Andrej Sustr, and Jack Johnson. Without a single doubt in my mind, Bryson is better than all of them.

Outside of Gudbranson (who I think is trash) this is exactly what we should do. Acquire a good 1G (and a better 2RHD), and otherwise let the kids keep playing. We're not learning from history otherwise (Tim Murray).

Delusional. Monahan's body is completely shot and everyone knows it, and his chances of ever returning to top-6 center conversation are very slim.

How do they hit the cap floor
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Archarte</b></div><div>Adams is unlikely to go after any of the 12 UFAs leaving buffalo this off season other than Anderson and that's doubtful. With Krebs, Quinn and Peterka likely to join the Sabres full time next season, this leaves Adams with the need to spend $20,000,000.00 on UFAs and through trade just to reach the cap floor. Buffalo is unlikely to take on any huge salary for more than two years given the need to sign Dahlin, Power and Mittelstadt if he shows any improvement next year. The remaining current cap space will get a hit from resigning Thompson and Cozens next offseason. The numbers and cap savings all make sense to keep this young core in place for a good long time.</div></div>
If we're giving 2.5M to a RHD vet, I'd much rather give it to Pysyk. He's already gelled with the team, has proven to be a positive impact on all our young players, and his impact on the ice is a definitive positive (both in terms of eye test and advanced stats).
Why are we taking on an unknown RHD when we could do much better with a guy we know that works?

Ugh, please no. The negligible hit of having Girgs play 4C is far offset by keeping Mitts or Olofsson around. Face-offs are not important. Some of the best teams in the league have atrocious FO%, because the outwork and outplay their opponents anyways and get back possession quickly.
Also I love Peterka, but preemptively trading away Olofsson to make room for him would be really dumb. VO hurt every joint in one arm, didn't score a single goal for almost half the season until it healed, and is still on pace to put up 20+ goals. Like come on.

Power Up
I hope we play him next to Pysyk for the rest of the season.
If Samuelsson keeps looking good, I think he takes 2LHD duties for next season while Owen gets acclimated. Matthias has been excellent. And if Power is playing the most sheltered minutes, I think a guy like Pysyk who's already wearing the A and gets along great in the room, would be a fantastic pairing with Power. He's steady and his defensive metrics are good, he could hold down the fort while letting Power go out and be more adventurous.
We'll see. If it works, it's even less of a reason to turnover our roster to make things work. Some consistency in our roster from year-to-year is long overdue.

To me, Jokiharju probably tops out as a very good bottom pair D on most teams, and a great option as a 7th D for a playoff run. I've been fairly underwhelmed with his performance on ice...just seems lost a lot of the time.
Klingberg/Larsson to me would go with Dahlin and you get the defensive defenseman for Power in a perfect world. But i dont know what they're thinking so its hard to say</div></div>
Yuck. You talk about Dahlin & Joker being bad defensively... and boy, do I have news for you about Klingberg. He has the defensive ability of Ristolainen--are you sure that's who you want playing with Dahlin?
Someone is going to give him 8.5x7 and that contract is gonna look terrible unless that team has a peak Hjalmarsson holding his hand the whole time.

Might wanna prepare for all the angry LAK fans. Like, would you trade Ryan Miller in 2012 for a package like that--but instead of us being bad, we're starting to be good again? He's as, if not more, enshrined with LA fans as Miller was for us.
I think Manson gets more money somewhere else. Fine by me, I don't think he's a good fit and he takes tons of penalties. I think KA trades for an RHD he really wants--as he seems to identify players he really wants and goes after them (see Levi & Krebs)--or we just re-sign Pysyk and roll with him as Power's partner.

Dynasty
Hmm, this is neat, thanks!
In all honesty, I think Miller walks to FA. He's good, but we don't have a spot for him with Jokiharju looking good and Bryson being able to play on his off-hand. Pysyk has been a steadier, more defensively-sound d-man, which we're reported to be after as a partner for Power. Either we re-sign Pysyk or trade for someone like Connor Murphy. Also, with the way Samuelsson has been playing, he'll be getting more money than that. If he keeps it up, he'll be our 2LHD next season even with Power in the lineup, Matthias is a stud. Power will probably pass him some point, but not by then.
It's been reported that Ruotsalainen is going back to Switzerland. It's a shame, but we don't really have the space in the roster for him.
FYI, we also have good offensive prospects in Olivier Nadeau, Josh Bloom, Tyson Kozak, Matteo Constantini, Aaron Huglen, Brandon Biro and potentially Kisakov/Poltapov, although KHL-based prospects are very uncertain nowadays. Ryan Johnson is ready for the NHL as a Dman (although we may not have space for him), and Novikov looks really good for an 18 yr old KHLer.

Let's just ignore the masshole troll, y'all.
I really don't think P.K. is an upgrade over even Pysyk at this this point. People like him too much on his reputation rather than his current play. I'd much rather keep the steady d-man who's already a part of our locker room. Manson is okay, but I think he gets more term somewhere else. Paul signing is meh considering he keeps Peterka out of the lineup--Asplund is already a fantastic defensive forward. Just play him with Girgs and Okposo and we're fine.
Too many BUF AGMs try to do too much. Trying to jump ahead with unnecessary, lateral moves via expensive FAs is just like the Tim Murray days. Holtby is the one signing where I think we should break the bank. Anything else should be a single RHD trade and that's it.

I mean rookies like Mercer (really?) , Seider (rookie dman on a team just as bad as the sabs), Zergas (who I wanted to take at 7) and so on are outperforming him.
Not mad at him, not sure why people cant have takes on players.</div></div>
Hockey isn't just about points. His whole scouting report from Juniors was that he thrives in transition and makes things happen while driving into the offensive zone. You're just being so incredibly biased and blinded by that, that you don't want to see how he's a good player. A remarkably good one for his age, too. Being a centerman is a lot harder than playing on the wing, you're responsible for a much larger section of ice and have to play within the most contested areas.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OrganizedConfusion55</b></div><div>Cozens isnt going to be a NHL center imo. Krebs will take that spot from him, he has way better vision on the ice. If Cozens stays in Buffalo, he will start playing more at wing imo.</div></div>
Also yeah wtf is this. He has 35 points so far on the season, good for the top 60 of ALL centers to play at least 15 games this season. That puts him firmly in 2C production. If that isn't an NHL center based off points alone, then what the hell is an NHL center? Only Barkov's and Matthews' allowed? He's outscoring other centers in his draft class like Dach, Newhook, Krebs, Tomasino, and McMichael.
He's 8th in scoring for all NHL centers under 22. Like honestly, what the hell more are you asking for?
I can understand takes on Mitts or Bryson or Olofsson or whatever, but this is just the worst thing I've seen on a site <em>full</em> of terrible ideas.

Yikes that Cozens take is awful. What's up with BUF fans still wanting to be perpetually angry at something with this team? Cozens has some of the best possession, neutral zone, and controlled entries statistics on the team. He's a monster in a lot of ways that doesn't automatically equal points, and even then, he's gonna put up like 40-45 pts as a 21 yr old. He's still got room to grow and has an ideal skillset to support the offensive, technical talent we have on the wings.
Plus he absolutely goes to war for this team, which no trades can buy.
Seriously this is shocking, like worse than Shibbal's takes. Jesus.

That being said, maybe it's better they sign UDFAs. It's like having to put together IKEA furniture instead of making a desk from scratch. Even if it's usually not as good, everything's mostly put together already, so fingers crossed the Rags don't somehow manage to royally mess it up.
