a new core without Mitch or JT
Yeah, Islanders don't touch that. And Dobson has more value than Marner anyhow.

Islanders easy pass. We traded 13th overall for Romanov and he has gotten better as the year goes on

I apparently disagree with my fellow Hawk fans here... I think Pageau fills a gap in the Hawks' roster this year while the kids continue to improve/mature. Given the retention, he's not be a huge expense. (Not that the Hawks need the retention.) A late 5th rounder ain't much to give up, especially considering all the picks the Hawks have this and future years.
Then, for year two of his contract, the Hawks have the choice to keep him, buy him out, or flip him (with their own retention added) for assets to a contender looking to fill out their own roster with a cheap, experienced, veteran center who still plays well defensively.

I would at the very least want what we payed for him so maybe a 1st, prospect/depth piece to flip and a mid round pick 3rd or 4th

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>athrin</b></div><div>ya pulock has bad defensive metrics. no thanks picks are meaningless 3rd and 4th round.
Norris is far far better than pageau <strong>when he is healthy</strong></div></div>
at this point in time, that is one hell of a caveat for a guy getting paid nearly $48M over the next 6 years.
i honestly wouldn't do this trade if I were running the Islanders. He's missed 106 games over the past two seasons and who even knows if that shoulder holds up after the third major surgery on it. He's too big of a gamble to take based on the term and cap hit you'd be looking at.

Norris is also getting paid 3mil more for 5 more years than Pageau. Plus he's extremely injury prone. I wouldn't want to touch him at all

Isles prospects
I'd move Tyce Thompson & Kyle MacLean down - they're 4th line callups at best. My feeling is MacLean got the callup because he's a guy they don't think there's much development left in, and it's fine throwing him out for 9 minutes a night. Thompson has done the same for the Devils. And Cameron Berg has been the leading goalscorer on a very good NoDak NCAA team - I hope they sign him and give him some run towards the end of this AHL season.
Also don't sleep on Henrik Tikkanen in that goalie depth chart - he's not signed yet but he's playing in the org and has put up a .927 SV%/2.20 GAA in 14 AHL games. I think he'll be someone to keep an eye on going forward.

That seems insanely expensive for Kurashev. If you take out the first and add Pageau, the Isles might do it.

Yea but its a lot better under Roy. Lambert was a defensive killer who had no system. Pulock's only concerns (for me) are injuries but I think its just bad luck. Its been a combination of brutal hits and blocked shots, plays where anyone and everyone would get hurt

While I agree this trade doesn’t do it. Perrault and Othman are way more valuable to New York than Guentzel for 30 something games.
Maybe Othman but no way Perrault is moved. He’s the leading scorer in the NCAA

A PPG defenseman who averages 26 min per game is definitely a sure thing lol. He’s been better than Marner this season. He’s a top 5 defenseman right now

A 5th is fair value. But the Hawks have two retention slots. They'll likely try to trade guys like Johnson, Beauvillier, Blackwell and a couple others. They'll need to retain on those deals to maximize their return.
