Bobrovsky goes for success Barrie gone Trades with CBJ EDM and STL
Avs aren't trading away Jost. The guy hasn't even hit his ceiling yet, but I get way trading for Bobrovsky makes sense - If he's willing to re-sign.
Trading away Gruby, which makes me sick because I strongly believe the guy is going to be great, would be a shame. But I get it, in the light of getting Bob - no room for him to be the nr.1 goalie.
I'd love to trade away Barrie as well. I like that move, since EDM needs a player like Barrie. Interesting read.

TBL amp COL - Who gets it done
Avs fan here - interesting question. Just debated this with another CapFriendster.
Personally I'd love to see JT Miller / Johnson for Barrie. Both are on a contract that is team friendly, and damn I like how JT Miller plays the game. Avs could use him on their 2. line.
If going for Johnson, it creates another "problem". Avs are in a need for a 2. line winger. But hey, you could trade for that.
Either way, I think TBL could use Barrie. Strålman is getting older, and having Hedman/Barrie/Sergachev as offensive D's, that would be pretty dangerous.
What are your thoughts?

Aves give back ottawa pick
No way Avs would do this.
Stone is a bully who just wants a long term deal.
Throwing away Timmins and a possible top5 pick is just plain stupidity IMHO.
I know getting Chabot as well reasons with throwing away Timmins and OTTs pick. But still. Nope.

trading Reinhart for Subban making space for young players and trading for picks
Interesting moves. Didn't know Baptiste played with McJesus - chemistry is always remembered.
For PK to move from Nashville that would be.. Heartbreaking for Nashville. Even though getting key assets in return, I don't believe they would do it.
Buffalo would be PO ready with this team, that's guaranteed.

Skinner to Avs Yup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>milehigh11</b></div><div>I dont see the Avalanche resigning Nemeth at all. We have 3 young defenders ready to break with the team. I could see us trading a VET like Barrie / Johnson make space once they prove their worth. We need secondary scoring but I dont see us going after Skinner or Keller with 2 possible top 10 picks in the 2019 draft.
I could see us going after a premier UFA like Panarin. A complete winger. Could theoretically take Landeskog's place since his contract would be up in 2 years at that time. And we could sell "high" on him. In the 2019 draft we could be adding 2 top 10 picks (i am still in the minority that thinks Colorado misses the playoffs and we all know about Ottawas issues)
2019 we could be adding: Makar, Timmins, Kaut, Shvyryov (sleeper), Kamenev (if he doesnt make the team this year), Bowers
Then you factor in one of: Hughes, Cozens, Podkolzin, Kakko, Dach all who could make the jump immediately.
You are getting yourself in trouble with the expansion draft by getting more people we would have to protect in Keller and Skinner and resigning Nemeth. I do think Barrie or Johnson will be traded for futures so we only have to protect 3 Dmen (Girard, Zadarov, Johnson or Barrie) ITs why I think Cole was given a 3 year deal so he could be left exposed</div></div>
Nemeth was +26 last year and I strongly believe that he can be even better - and you have to have solid defensive guys as well to play along great offensive players. But you already know that!
I believe trading Landeskog would be horrible. The guy has been captain for years now and is somewhat one of the guys from when the Avs started to rebuild. Plus, he's a gritty powerforward who, I wouldn't say skills, but the guy puts up points and make room for other people. but I get where you headed with this and I understand you.
I totally agree with you about Panarin - I'm really rooting for Sakic to go big on this one, because then things are going to get scary. I strongly believe as you wrote, that trading Barrie/Johnson would be ideal, if the kids (Timmins, Makar, Meloche) are paning out great. Only time can tell.
Thanks for you comment!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMTD</b></div><div>Thank you for making a team, I know how hard it is to do this and no matter what, some one will find fault with any team no matter how well it is put together.
It is possible that Skinner will want to move to Colorado, but let me remind you that he had a NTC and chose to go to Buffalo, I may be in error but IMHO I think only Buffalo, TML and OTT were in the running. So now that he is a free agent to go where he wants, I see no reason why he would not choose among those 3 teams again. Second, IMHO, he will sign for at least $7,000,000 and actually closer to $8,000,000 next year.</div></div>
True - he clearly wanted to go to Buffalo for a reason. IMO he went there because of: 1) Eichel/Mittelstadt on the rise. 2)Have a great year and sign +6,5 mil. contract long term. 3) IF he isn't re-signed, he can pick any team - and based upon this season choose his destination. I don't know, but things are getting pretty interesting in Buffalo.
But I can clearly see what you mean. I'm really excited to see how Buffalo are going to this year. They really bolstered their lineup but paid a price as well. Interesting! Thanks for you comment, very well reasoned.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tp47</b></div><div>Agreed on all of this. I hadn't seen the article yet, but it is great.
I'm excited to see what Sakic ends up doing with the RHDs, goalies, and the 2nd line. I wish he could push Barrie + for Nylander or Draisaitl, but like we said, that probably wouldn't meet EDM/TOR needs. Another trade partner I like would be TBL - maybe get Tyler Johnson (waives NMC) or JT Miller. TBL could be more interested now that EK isn't happening (unless UFA). And then of course, COL has the cap space to target guys like Panarin, Stone, Gourde and Bobrovsky if they reach free agency.</div></div>
Toronto is going to end up doing something with their roster, to fit all of their key assets to the current cap. I believe Nylander is going to get shopped no matter what, the question is to where and for who/picks/whatever.
I thought about JT Miller as well, as he would fit on the 2. line and is a gritty potato but with offensive upside as well. Johnson could be a fun addition too. With Yzerman gone, things are maybe shaken up a bit - who knows.
I really hope that Avs are going to make a splash during free agency, but it's been a long time since they've done it. Watching Panarin in an Avs jeysey could be pretty neat!

But.. Lehtonen? What about Francouz? I strongly believe he will do awesome this year. I'm aware he's going to be in AHL, but his numbers are going to be great and then Varly is out of the door - boom. Gruby/Franc is up for the pressure!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tp47</b></div><div>COL has a bit of logjam at RHD with Johnson, Barrie, Meloche, Timmins and Makar. I would expect Meloche to see some time this year, maybe Timmins (he's just now coming back from concussion/ankle issues after months off), and then Makar to sign his ELC after his college season. Not sure if it'll be Barrie getting moved or not. The arguments for trading him are 1) his value is high right now 2) he's a little older than the core group 3) have other offensive D in Girard and Makar 4) could lose him in free agency in 2 years. Moving him for a young winger could work out.
Don't forget about LAK signing Kovalchuk and VGK getting Pacioretty/Stastny.</div></div>
If Avs are shopping Barrie, it should be within this year, mainly because his price is high, as you wrote.
Haven't seen Meloche play unfortunately, but the logjam could be real if they aren't shopping him around and loose him to free agency. Especially if the kids, Timmins, Meloche, etc. are ready to play. Might as well kick in a trade and get a solid veteran forward and a high draft pick.
Girard was magnificent IMO last season and I truly believe he's going to be a stud this season.
Yeah, pretty excited to see how Kovy will get around in LA. Rumour says the guy is still capable of flying around a stickhandle the **** out of people and sniping top shelf.
Regarding to Pacioretty/Stastny, that's going to be exciting - If you haven't read this article yet, this is pure gold.

But with how much tougher the Pacific just got, I think EDM would be really targeting 3-5 years down the road.</div></div>
They are apparantly so rare that almost every team needs one! ^^ With the contract Barrie is on ATM, I think Avs are going to keep him around until Timmins (and maybe Makar) are ready for a 15-20 min. workload.
The Pacific division was tough enough already last season, but Sharks adding Karlsson, Vancouver's young guns getting another season under their belt (Pettersson is going to be awesome, I think!) and Calgary bolstering their lineup, things are going to be interesting!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tp47</b></div><div>COL would love to have Draisaitl (I've thought about trades centered around Draisaitl/Barrie), and I think they would pull the trigger on this trade. I don't think EDM would do it though. With all the moves that SJS, VGK, LAK have made in the offseason, I think EDM sits back and builds on a youth movement around McDavid and Draisaitl (similar to COL and MacKinnon/Rantanen). In a few years, a lot of Pacific teams will have veterans starting to decline while McDavid/Draisaitl are hitting their prime.
For what it's worth, I don't think the value is necessarily far off - just that EDM might value youth/team control in Draisaitl. EDM sits this trade out and sees how their RHD looks with Larsson, Benning and Bouchard (0-2 years away).
I think a trade around Simmonds/Varlamov could work later in the season, depending on how Grubauer/Francouz start the year.</div></div>
I totally agree with you - just wanted to see what the team would actually look like if the trade would happen. EDM will (99% sure) keep McJesus/Draisaitl around for a long time and build around them. The only problem ATM is, as you acknowledge, is their defensive right side.
Even though they might not pick up Barrie, who I see as a match (Mainly because of his offensive upside), I can't seem to find any other guy who could fit EDM needs.

The only thing bugging me with the perspective of Hawks dealing away their 1. round pick. But hey, otherwise they aren't going to get Stone.
This would in my eyes bring the Hawks closer to a "quick-rebuild", but at the same time making their rebuild longer.
Also, moving DeBrincat would be a shame. The guy is going to be lit!

But hey, Barkov just got named Captain and he's going to bolster their middle for years to come. Can't see how Nylander fits in that perspective, even though throwing in a 1.round pick.
Also, having competition between players are good - but having 3 players who are all 1. line centermen, is not progressing anyone positive - especially young guys like Matthews and Barkov.

Having a pick, if the odds are with the Avs, in the top5 are much better than getting Stone.
Also, adding Stone would arguably make Avs gunning for a team-first-contract, and with Stone wanting a longterm contract with a lot of bucks, Avs aren't the place for him.
But hey, I like the idea. The Avs are in a need of second-line scoring and Stone are able to provide with that.
