Serious offer to move up to 2 Chicago
Habs would be silly to do this. Demidov is NOT that much better than #5. He's better for sure but Lindstrom, Catton, Iginla, etc are all going to be studs also.

VGK trade - cap help
I love Roy, I think he's awesome but, he's not that awesome to give all that up.
I'd think the Winnipeg 1st alone is more than fair, especially to a team in a cap crunch
I also think William Karlsson, Howden, Barbashev and Hill are more likely to be cap casualties

Same here.
Also I'm not a Blackhawks fan, I'm a Jets fan, but no way the Blackhawks draft 3 RD.
At 3rd the Blackhawks should draft Lindstrom, Jiricek at 20th is good, but 100% Connelly if he's somehow available at 34th.

Yeah and to just add on they’ve *never* said that they want to contend immediately just that they want to *improve*. I think they’re well aware that their window opens when Gallagher and Anderson’s deals expire. Which is 3 more years.

We have been drafting Russians to try and keep him happy. He was jacked to have Khusnutdinov here and he's probably nothing more than a 3C. Yurov is a guy that could be playing 1C next to him.

Habs management dream scenario
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>I don't think it would be stupid. I think if they can lay hands on a player who is "as good" as Iginla will be in 3-4 years starting next season and all they need to do is add a LHD or another late 1st, they would be crazy to not do it.
The Habs want to be good ASAP and not in 3-4 years when lots of players are going to be on new very expensive deals.</div></div>
The stupid part isn’t getting those players but building an entire top 6 on the exact same age group whose contracts will always be up at (nearly) the same time for very similar cap hits. You need impactful elc players to be serious about contending especially if you don’t have that superstar. We need to stagger the contracts. I think it’s even risky to get one more 23 year old but won’t be surprised if they do it. Definitely don’t think they’ll go for two though.

Habs management dream scenario
We dont Rush Prospects anymore
Slaf was ready and it was best he learned at this level
But overall we usually wait as we did with Suzuki,Guhle, Xhekaj in Junior an extra year
We waited on Hutson,Engstrom and Reinbacher this year, who all will be staying in either MTL or Laval
Caufield even we waited an extra year despite his Center Alex Turcotte turning pro after his rookie season in the NCAA
He ended up bonding with Dylan Holloway and winning the Hobey Baker that year
Overall the theme is we wait unless they're Really Massive even in comparison to NHL Heavyweights.
If we took Lindstrom then maybe i buy it but Iginla will grow quite a bit in the next 2 years and his game will become much more complete.
Until then its about patience.
Barron nor Arber are Arbitration eligible and both have Waiver Exempt games left
Only reason you'd give them over the 1-1.1m you would have to is if Arber signs a Alex Vlasic like 6 year deal at 4.5m
Barron i'd just give the 1.1m x 1 year and move him out if he cant crack the line up at camp
Reinbacher isnt ready for the NHL yet
Defensively he's fine but the Transition and offensive side of his game hasnt clicked yet.
Mailloux could play in the NHL on bottom pair but if you're serious about him being top 4 he needs to stay in Laval.
Struble only has 13 waiver exempt games left and i dont see us keeping him up to lose Harris instead or to send down Guhle or Xhekaj
Struble-Mailloux
Bisson-Reinbacher
Engstrom-Barron
Sobolev (Suzuki and Florian Xhekaj's version of a Junior Alexi Emelin)
NHL play the regulars boosting their value
Then sell Savard at the TDL with Harris and Kovacevic
Matheson-Guhle
Hutson-Savard
Xhekaj-Kovacevic
Harris

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Habs_22_14_20</b></div><div>Complementary top 6 wingers can be added via trade (Lehkonen/Hagel), drafting top 10 you should draft potential star players (McDavid/MacKinnon/Rantanen/Makar/Draisaitl,etc.).</div></div>
I mean, I don't fully disagree, but it's worth mentioning that the players you listed here are former #1, #1, #10, #4, and #3 overall picks. Rantanen is kind of the exception to the rule there - you can easily point to guys like Scott Glennie, Dylan McIlrath, Zach Hamill, Nikita Filatov, Olli Juoelvi, Lias Andersson, Michael Dal Colle, Griffin Reinhart, Vitali Kravstov, and so on as guys drafted in that #4-10OA range that completely flamed out.
I mean, hell, if you wanna do the "redraft" gimmick for the names you mentioned, it's worth mentioning that Hyman is 10th overall in goals scored for his draft class and Lehkonen is 25th overall in his class for overall scoring - you could make a strong argument that if you go back in time and draft those years all over again with the knowledge of how they've both turned out that both guys would be borderline lottery picks at worst. I get what you're saying about the type of player you want to get with a lottery pick, but the truth is anything outside the top 2/3 picks has a pretty decent chance into turning into nothing.

yeah, Hyman's only average 0.5 G/GP since going to Edmonton, and Lehkonen's only won a Cup while averaging 60+ pts/82 GP in Colorado, I would -hate- getting those types of players with my top 10 pick.

I wouldn't move matheson he is a great leader, good west islander who can appease the fr-qc market, and fills a need for more puck moving on the back end.
Lehkonen would have looked soo good on a line with Suzuki-Slafkovsky which coulda left Newhook-Dach-Caufield to round out the top-6... urghh sigh</div></div>
Always remember, people said Lehkonen was garbage and not worth a 1st. I tend to underrate 1sts maybe but I don't underrate as much folks here overrate 1sts. If 95% of the forum were GMs they'd trade every single player in the league for a late 1st, Johnny McNobody and some random Ahl guy that puts up a PPG but can't actually make a pass in the big leagues.
It would be a battle of who's salary cap looked the most clean/flexible in 5 years and Stanley Cups wouldn't even matter LOL

Florida will get a first-round draft pick plus a more useful player than Dvorak or Harris for Anton Lundell.

Mtl isn’t spending this much for Necas. They won’t trade Mailloux away after the season he just got. Necas is not even a top line winger.

Kyrou is probably not worth his $8.125M cap hit as of right now but any trade the Blues make has to be more than a 3LHD and a mid first. Just not enough value to move a player of Kyrou’s caliber. I feel something around Newhook or Dach++ could get it done.

The russian factor is overblown. Major Russian prospects historically have not balked on NHL opportunities. it's a non-issue

I'd kind of understand the point if he was playing for CSKA, but Metallurg doesn't have ties to the russian military or Putin. It's also been way overblown how Russian players are "DND"s because of the chance that they wont come over. Who's the last major russian draft prospect that sat there and didnt defect? People like to call it an issue, but it really isnt. He's debating extending in Metallurg because Guerin wouldnt commit to giving him a lineup spot, not because he wants to stay in Russia forever.
