Opening Day Lineup

They'll sign, your guarantee is worthless. The options for Hughes are sign or sit out, Pettersson could sign an offer sheet but I think that would have already happened.

Opening Day Lineup without Petey and Quinn
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BigTramFan</b></div><div>Nevermind, I just saw the news that Zajac has retired, but some center depth would be good</div></div>
Oilers likely to put turris on waivers that’s a free depth option with next to no commitment and low cap hit.

This team is still not good
Replaced Eichel and Reinhart with Pettersson and Tkachuk
Middle six is very young (not good yet)
Defense is pretty weak
Goaltending got worse
The only teams I could see this team finishing ahead of are the Ducks, Coyotes, and maybe Blue Jackets

Hardly stacked, as this lineup is posted the 3C Kampf scored one goal last season. Gusev as a PTO suddenly is a second liner?

Force their hand Pt 2
Yeah your premise is flawed. Even if van matched the offer sheet and couldn't fit hughes in (he's a 10.2 c so he can sign or sit) why on earth would they even do business with you? You're the one that issued the offer sheet. They could make a better deal with literally any other team for those pieces. They could trade hughes to NJ for anything they wanted if they couldn't sign him before taking your dumps.

Capping off the offseason with more depth
Hamonic - Myers - Poolman - Schenn
Unless one of them gets injured early, I don't see why Demers would want to come here. That's a lot of bodies in front of him; I'm sure he could find another team with less players ahead of him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BigTramFan</b></div><div>Fair enough. Eriksson is a buy out candidate whose signing bonus for 2021 has already been paid. So BUF buy him out this month he would cost only $1m this year and $1m next year. For that very low cost, you would get a 2nd rounder and 5th rounder. I think the deal is pretty fair.</div></div>
Ya know thats an interesting point. If i had to place a dollar value on a first, i assume 5m is about right (talking 11-20, nobody is moving a top 10 first to shed cap, and after pick 20, theres more risk. Is it worth 2 million to pick up a second?- guess it depends on your front office.
Edit- his cap hit is still 4 million this year, its 1m next year.

No futures traded build for 22-23
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Reason</b></div><div>Fully agree with you regarding JB. I definitely anticipate JB going hard for the playoffs this year, and by doing so further complicate this teams future going forward.
I thought about bringing back both Edler and Hamonic. The reason I didn't is because from what I've heard on VAN sports radio is Edler wants 3+ million and multiple years, Hamonic doesn't want to take another discount and also wants multiple years, both players want trade protection. To me next year should be about capitalizing on trade assets and clearing cap space for 2022-2023, so signing either or both of these players on their terms doesn't make much sense. If they could get them on one years with no protection I would definitely be in favor of at least bringing one of them back.</div></div>
Oh man.. I hadn't heard that update. Interesting. Thanks.
I would mayyybe do hamonic at almost 2 million for a couple years, mayybe 3, with limited protection. I think he would be a good veteran fill in when we do finally have more cap space.
Edler can gtfo with a multi year contract. He is clearly diminishing with age due to age related speed decline. I'm ok with giving him a NMC on a one year, I think he's earned that. 2 years?? No way.

Welcome to Cap Friendly. Try not to take any of the comments too seriously. As you can tell your probably going to have to adjust your values quite a bit. No worries! I would suggest looking at what fans of other teams are accepting for certain players on this site or you're going to catch a lot of grief.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BigTramFan</b></div><div>Totally makes sense and appears that if WPG resign Copp then Appleton will not be protected and will be selected by SEA. Stanley is also not protected and could be the alternative selection. But WPG stand to lose just one of those guys, so trading the other away doesn't make sense.
How would WPG view the following trade before the ED?
To VAN: Appleton + Stanley
To WPG: Rathbone + Lind + Gadjovich + Highmore
Rathbone is a budding offensive LHD exempt from Expansion Draft and is ready to play in the NHL. Lind and Gadjovich are also ready to play in the NHL but are not exempt. Highmore is a cheap, high energy 4th line guy who is a proven playoff performer, not exempt.
Then Seattle probably select Lind, Gadjovich or Harkins from WPG. Let's say it is Harkins. Essentially WPG get to choose either option A or option B below:
OPTION A
To SEA: Appleton
To WPG: Nothing
OPTION B
To WPG: Rathbone + Lind + Gadjovich + Highmore
To VAN: Appleton + Stanley
To SEA: Harkins</div></div>
The Jets like to run little and large when it comes to their defensive pairings (to their detriment at times), so I doubt they would want to part with Stanley who they would likely want on the 2nd pair next year... at least to start the year.
Option A: Lose one roster player (Appleton)
Option B: Lose two roster players (Appleton and Stanley) for another LHD prospect when they already two LHD prospects ready to compete for a spot (Samberg and Heinola). If Rathbone was RHD then it would be more interesting. I believe if they run Morrissey, Stanley, Heinola then Samberg (LHD) becomes part trade bait for a RHD
I think the trade the Jets would do would be with Seattle and not a third-party. That said, they shouldn't over think it and should just let seattle take appleton
