Keep McDonagh

Only if you assume we retain McDonagh through their next signing. If he's gone, plus two years of cap increases (flat cap again this summer, increase next year and increase year after that) is almost enough for raises to Cernak, Sergachev and Cirelli, plus Point the year before. It will probably come down to how much we can shave off of Palat's salary, and/or whether we get rid of him entirely in order to retain all four of those guys.

Yeah, all your points are good.
I just have this dream of Stammer with Joseph, the kid causing havoc with speed up the boards and tireless retrieval, and Stamkos getting endless shots. Separately, we fell ass-backwards into the best value line in the league in our Cup run (and one of my favorite lines ever), and I think Colton's got the motor to be a poor man's Coleman.
I hate my fourth line, but you never know what might gel.
I do like your idea of taking a shot at another triplets line, though.
[Also, since I can't find a way to un-report: My apologies, I reported your post in what was meant to be a reply to it. Presumably the mods will see my error.]

Also, Driedger probably gets overpaid somewhere else. Something like $3-3.5 mil for 2-3 years.</div></div>
Driedger's a placeholder. Someone's going to be paid roughly $1.2m to carry Vasy's bags.

2019-20 Cap
I'm not sure what you mean.
But you're right up against the cap, with only 22 slots filled. That means you've left no room to fill the roster to 23 guys. And we're going to fill it -- we ain't gonna run with just 22.
In other words, the team you put together is over the cap. You need to cut salary somehow, so we can afford a 23rd player.

TB Cap Not as bad as it seems Tampa Offseason Trade with MTL and signing Point
You've left 3 empty roster spots, and not enough cap room to fill them.

Not Hard
Looks reasonable, but here's hoping we can do a lot better than wasting $2.5m on an even-older Dan Girardi.

You're missing a player. There are 23 roster spots, we're not going to leave one empty.

Need 2 more players to fill out the roster. Also tricky to get to 2020 without a buyout hit for Callahan.

Keep It Together
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BOLTLOVER1</b></div><div>Liking Miller more and more these games.. much bigger impact than most of other "middle guys". WAY too versatile to discard .. more one dimensional guys like Johnson and Gourde and Killorn can be replaced easier.</div></div>
Yeah, that could work too. The other straightforward option is Gourde, who's in the same situation as Miller in that he could be moved before his NTC kicks in this summer.
Johnson, Palat and Killorn are more complicated, because they all currently have full NTC's and would have to waive for us to move them.
There could be a strong argument that keeping Miller is better than keeping Gourde, given that Miller's skill set is a bit more different from the rest of our guys. Plus Miller is younger. We might get a little less for Gourde in a trade than we would get for Miller, but not a big deal.
So I like that as an alternate to what I've done here -- just swap Gourde for Miller and vice versa. Their salaries are comparable, so it doesn't change anything else.
edit: I set it up as I did because I'm partial to hustle guys like Gourde, but we've probably already got enough of those. Keeping Miller is probably the better play.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rangsey</b></div><div>How is Rutta worth 2million? If anything he is the cheap spare part D. Strals would sign as a discount to not have to move his family again. The guy knows he's doesnt need to do the heavy minutes anymore.</div></div>
Could be. Rutta's cap hit is $2.25m this year, so maybe he signs for less than what I've estimated. Wouldn't make too much difference with regard to what else we can do.
Stralman's at $4.5m this year. If you think we can get him to re-sign for say, $2.5m, then we could fit him in instead of Rutta. Hard to say if he would go for that, and I wanted to see what the roster would look like based on numbers I'm pretty confident we can pull off, with no need to hope for guys giving us discounts.
That said, as much as I like Stralman, he's hit this stage of his career where is production is generally declining and he's often injured. I don't think having him on our 3rd pair really changes our 2019-2020 outlook very much vs Rutta, or whoever else we can find.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>slapshot723</b></div><div>I think the Islanders will be interested in Tyler Johnson in the off-season.</div></div>
Johnson has a full NTC through 2021. Much easier to free up cap space by moving Miller, before Miller's modified NTC kicks in this summer.
