McDonagh

True, but if they couldn't get it, and wanted to rebuild from scratch, this is a fantastic Caps lineup.
Of course I'd still trade a late pick for Franson or Schenn, and then loan Bowey and Vrana to the Bears until the playoffs, because Bowey is still pretty green, and either Franson or Schenn just might start ahead of him and add more defense and penalty killing to that third pairing.

McDonagh (actually makes sense)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BrianMacLeonsis</b></div><div>Grabner is worth a second and Stephenson. McDonagh is probly worth Burakovsky, Johansen (a top tier defensive prospect), and a 1st but instead I decided to give you Hobbs as well. Don’t gimme that bs</div></div>
Absolutely correct.
But if you're trying to explain that to someone who has no idea who the Caps' top prospects are, it's worth pointing out that Burakovsky and Johansen are each recent first round draft picks who are ready to play 18 minutes a night in the NHL with a rebuilding Rangers club. Honestly, the two of them would be enough of a knock your socks off offer for McDonagh and Grabner, if the Rangers are on a losing streak at the deadline. I don't think the Cap want to trade Johansen at all, as he's a future #1 defenseman, but the chance to add a current #1 defenseman makes that trade worthwhile.
The lineup above still needs a fourth right handed defenseman, but other than that it looks solid. You've solidified the defense an wings for the playoffs without playing into some Caps fans' obsession on here with trading away Orpik and Grubauer, so you end up with a better top four on defense, AND better defensive depth. Defense wins championships, so it makes sense to have both talent and depth at defense and at goalie if the Caps want to contend for a championship.
I could see upgrading Grubauer to a proven playoff winner, but I don't see the Caps "letting the kids play" at defense and goalie in the playoffs.
Even though you're overpaying for past achievements on McDonagh, and haven't bolstered the Caps' depth at RHD, the overall roster here gets five stars. Solid effort.

McDonagh (actually makes sense)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rangerfan01</b></div><div>Why would they trade with a division rival</div></div>
Rebuilding clubs don't have rivals. When Johansen is a #1 defenseman, and McDonagh has retired, the Rangers will look back and laugh.
In the meantime, the Caps have a chance to contend, which, if they win, just helps the Rangers get more tv viewers and sell out tickets faster to three or four home games a year.
I mean, if the Rangers were good right now, I would totally get your question. Since they aren't, why not?

I'm a hugeee Oshie fan!! But then again I'm not sure if NYR are lol!
Issue again comes down to NYR wanting to get younger and have a 'socks blown off' offer.
Similar issue with the Keith Yandle trade years ago. ARI was shopping, but not overly seriously that year. NYR grossly overpaid at the time and acquired him. Need that overpayment unfortunately

Yeah, might be that Caps would have to give them a higher pick but Burakovsky, a 1st and Djoos/Bowey is a stretch.

Implying Shattenkirk and Karlsson have the same impact on a team.

Please gosh no. Bura is a young top 6 player that is 22 that can be here for 8 years. Hjalm is a 30 year old defensive dman that will be here for 1.5 seasons. I like Hjalm as a partner for Carlson, but that trade is terrible.

- Under no circumstances do the Caps need Franson...Chicago does not even want Franson.
- Yes to dealing Orpik and I'm okay to include Siegenthaler (I don't see him being as blue-chip as Johansen, Hobbs, or others). But don't need to include Stephenson or the 2nd rounder.

True, but take a look at those years remaining on Ovechkin and Backstrom's contracts. Tick tock tick tock. The future, if they leave, is plenty of time to trade for draft picks.

Deadline
I don't mind the idea of Burakovsky+ for Kane I think it would be a good deal for the caps Kane paired with Wilson on that second line would be scary open up a lot of space for Kuznetsov. I just think Bowey and a 2nd is to much I think just put a 1st rounder in would be fair.

You're adding epicycles. If the Caps trade enough to get Kane, and are willing to part with Orpik because no one is injured and they're over the salary cap, they can give Orpik to buffalo.
