Absolutely correct.

But if you're trying to explain that to someone who has no idea who the Caps' top prospects are, it's worth pointing out that Burakovsky and Johansen are each recent first round draft picks who are ready to play 18 minutes a night in the NHL with a rebuilding Rangers club. Honestly, the two of them would be enough of a knock your socks off offer for McDonagh and Grabner, if the Rangers are on a losing streak at the deadline. I don't think the Cap want to trade Johansen at all, as he's a future #1 defenseman, but the chance to add a current #1 defenseman makes that trade worthwhile.

The lineup above still needs a fourth right handed defenseman, but other than that it looks solid. You've solidified the defense an wings for the playoffs without playing into some Caps fans' obsession on here with trading away Orpik and Grubauer, so you end up with a better top four on defense, AND better defensive depth. Defense wins championships, so it makes sense to have both talent and depth at defense and at goalie if the Caps want to contend for a championship.

I could see upgrading Grubauer to a proven playoff winner, but I don't see the Caps "letting the kids play" at defense and goalie in the playoffs.

Even though you're overpaying for past achievements on McDonagh, and haven't bolstered the Caps' depth at RHD, the overall roster here gets five stars. Solid effort.
