overpaying alot for Gallagher and I don't think CAR is willing to take this trade but from washington side it's good. Also the fact that CAR and WAS are in the same division make this trade very unlikely

Edmonton says no, we’re not trading our best right shot forward for A lesser forward in terms of ceiling.. that is a left shot, point is we need more right shooters than left if we have a choice. Grubauer could be a nice add, but with Montoya there, he would need to be moved
I honestly wouldn’t mind trading Pulju, but it would need to be the right deal, not this

Why not just trade for Karlsson keep carlson and go after it this year loaded on the blue line. If Karlsson can't get you past one round I'd trade everyone except kuznetsov and holtby in the off season. Start over , it ain't working

Deadline Trades w/ ARI, VAN
I don't see the need to move Connolly. He's pretty versatile, had 15 goals last year, and already 14 so far this year (he's got maybe 20 goal level in him with the right line mates). Vanek had 17 last year in only 2 more games played than Connolly, and has 16 this year and has played 10 more games...so apples-to-apples comparison they score goals at the same rate. It is the assists production that is a little off on Connolly, but he will play both wings and can play the inside on PP1 if Oshie isn't in the line-up and the wall on PP2 mostly. Plus he shoots from and goes to traffic areas, where Vanek has more finesse. The Caps have enough finesse with Kuzy, Bura, Vrana, and don't need soft...they need speedy and hard working like Connolly.
Plus he's signed through next year on a very affordable deal. He' worth too much for the Caps especially when productive.
And you're giving up Vanacek who the Caps have penciled in to replace Grubi....that's not a really good trade in my opinion.
Plus in the Az deal you only need to trade Siegenthaler or Lewington, not both.

Green will probably cost you either a first or a second and a mid-tier D prospect.
Ken Holland is pretty dumb though, you can probably send him Orpik and he'll think he won the trade.

agree with everything Krak said...
- Grubi belongs in Az...best fit for him.
- Leddy would be nice but Hjalmmer is probably better suited with shorter contract, so prospects can come around eventually.
- Trade Bowey...

I'm a big fan of Nick Leddy, and I'd love to see him with the Caps. Only two minor things about this trade
1. I'd rather not trade Grubauer within the division. Best case scenario is we can send him out west.
2. It's going to be tough for Johansen to crack the lineup with these long term contracts and Djoos. But if we need to make a trade in two years or so to give him a full-time spot, that's fine.
Those are rather minor things, but all-in-all, it's a new creative idea. Stick taps.

Embrace the 52 car coming back
Green "would" help, but he is a rental and you're better of trading Bowey (whom I think we've seen makes a lot of mistakes and is not as strong a boards player as we all thought), than Siegenthaler who is rated as a higher prospect and probably coveted later on. You've also got Hobbs, Johansen, and Lewington in the coffer too.
But Green is a RENTAL...as mentioned, and he'll be getting less ice time and less PP time than he is in DET, so his starts and overall deployments won't be as rosy. Plus you've got the stigma of losing a first rounder and a forward for another RENTAL. Just like Shatty last year and losing the utility and youth of Sanford, who would have been a solid 3rd line LW had he been healthy.
I don't think GMBM overpays for Green...his job is on the line this deadline. Just my humble opinion.

All for the Bura/Bowey trade...I think that helps a lot actually.

Make it:
Burakovsky, John Carlson, Bowey, Gustaffson, and a 1st Rounder...for...
Karlsson, Hoffman, and a 5th round pick.
That's a top-6 forward and a prospect forward, a Top-2 defenseman and a high-potential developing HL defenseman, and a first rounder. I think that return is comparable.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>buchnevichh</b></div><div>I don't see why a team would trade subban for weber</div></div>
What does that have to do with the value of the players being exchanged? Weber for Subban was moving what they considered an issue in the locker room with a bad contract for an acceptable short term replacement with a contract that becomes easy to move to a budget team in a year or 2. Not fair value but useful enough. And if you want to talk bad trades how did Yzerman get as much as he did for St. Louis who would only waive for NYR? Rangers had TB over a barrel and still overpaid.

Twice as many hits doesn't make a guy a better player.
Niskanen may have topped 47 points 3 times, but that's not in the same universe as a guy who has topped 70 points 4 times, and 80 points once. Karlsson is a generational talent, and you are so attached to Niskanen's +/- on a President's trophy winning team that you want to stick with what you know.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>Yes. I've seen some amazing highlight reel goals. 2/3 of the way through this season he's scored three goals. Niskanen has topped 47 points three times, and is going to pass 1200 career hits this season. Karlsson won't hit 600, and his opponents have outscored him at even strength by 24 points this year. Maybe he's injured? Or maybe he's just totally out of position and not thinking about playing defense at all. Either way, the Penguins would have a field day.</div></div>
karlson is better than nisk.......but nisk is cheaper and does exactly what the caps need him to......we dont need a 4th forward on the ice. Caps are teriible on defense i would rather have McDonagh right now.....
McDonagh isnt better but he fits what we need rght now

Your argument against acquiring Karlsson is that Niskanen has a better plus minus and "nearly as much offensive ability"? Have you ever seen Karlsson play?

I love the idea of sliding Bowey to the press box for the post-season. But not 100% Mike Green is the guy...he would cost a LOT and bring little (and zero long-term possibility) UNLESS they plan to cheap re-sign Green for a year or two and trade Carlson...
