Tampa defense in 2025-2026
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wrestlingfan5</b></div><div>Possibly trade perbix and jeannot to resign dumba?</div></div>
Both Jeannot and Perbix need to be gone, but not so they can waste cap on Dumba, who is terrible. Tampa should be looking at a number of RD this summer if they make it to ufa. Any of Roy, DeMelo, Walker, Chatfield, maybe Carrier if they'll get over whatever bias they have on a dman under 6', and for older possible ufa's, Tanev perhaps on a shorter deal. If they look for more expensive it would be Pesce or Montour maybe, but they won't have that cap space available. DeMelo is the best target by far, as Tampa needs a good defensive RD. Roy and Chatfield would be the next top options(again maybe Tanev), that Tampa should also look at. They definitely need to add someone, but luckily, this summer is shaping up to be a good one for that position.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeyfan1986</b></div><div>I don't understand why you would want Jones' contract.
Should aim for a guy like Pietrangelo if we assume anything can happen.</div></div>
Jones at 9.5M x 5 next summer is going to be a lot better than Marner at 12.5M x 8 i'll tell you that. Hawks don't make this trade, and realistic neither guy waives their NMC either. If we want Marner we can get him next summer as a UFA, or better yet we spend that 12.5M more wisely and build a real contender,

That doesn’t fits the fact that Sergy himself was a defensive liability in the games he did play. But that’s not even the problem. The problem is td. Cernak has been awful and he’s the best out of our rd. Perbix can not be in this roster next year so that alone needs for a new rd added to the mix. Crozier is not good enough to play in the top 4

:laugh Stamkos isn't a 1C anymore, And $7,000,000 in Florida is worth more than $10,000,000 in high tax California. No freaking way is Stamkos playing on the West Coast on the worst team in the NHL.

Jeannot has had God awful luck with injuries since being acquired.

Signing Mantha instead of re-signing Duclair is a choice. But not a good one. Like the Roy and Joshua signings. Sheary probably takes a 3rd to dump. Some team will pay a 5th for Jeannot. But not the Hawks. Av's aren't trading LOC for a 3rd pair D man and picks.

Reloading for next year
So instead of working on our own reclamation project the GM absolutely loves, we take someone else's and pay someone to take ours ? Makes a lot of sense I guess ( not really)? Stamkos will sign in the 6-6.5 range in TB. He realizes cap is tight and wants the ring more.Duke probably in the 3.5 and with the savings I mentioned makes up the difference Jeannot and Kubalik. Back to Kubalik if you have to expect him not to play defense to be somewhat productive he won't be playing much for Jon Cooper.

Not a chance any one of the other teams accept those proposals.
Tampa and Winnipeg are not giving up 1st round picks even with retention for one season of your aging players.
Wahlstrom and a 3rd is no where close to enough for taking on two seasons of 33 year old Lee and his diminishing value and $7m cap hit… that transaction starts with a 1st round pick going to Chicago along with him.

2024 Off Season
Not sure this team is any better than what Tampa has now. The only trade that makes sense for Tampa is the Sheary deal. And the Hawks easily decline that one. I do like the Sprong signing if JBB can actually fit him in.

Is Rempe the new Boogieman
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hckeydude123</b></div><div>The problem with that is if you continue to "gut" your bottom six every other year you won't have anything of value and you won't be very competitive shortly after. TBL only has a small handful of guys that have significant value to trade to keep this team going for years to come, guys like Stanmmer Point Kuch Cirelli Sergy Headman and maybe Cernak are the only guys they have they could actually get value for. All those guys are locked up long term except Headman and Stammer so if this team wants to be competitive 2 yrs from now than they are going to have to do something soon otherwise this team will hold out like CHI did without Kane and Towes and go into a super long depressing rebuild.</div></div>
That's an utterly delusional statement if you look at what this team has locked up long term. After this season Kucherov 3 more years
Hagel 8
Cirelli, Cernak, Sergachev 7
Point 6
Paul 5
Vasilevskiy 4
This is the core of a team that's not a rebuild especially with cap going up

Vegas Golden Knights signed Noah Hanifin (8 Years / $7,350,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>This contract is a pretty good example on how tax advantage is much smaller than most people think given his offer in CGY was for 7.5. Like yeah it totally exists but it isnt really anything to get antsy about and claim it to be a massive factor. 0.15M is roughly the gap.</div></div>
This doesn't make sense. The tax advantage is substantial and much more than $150k.
The difference for Hanifin each year making $7.35M in Vegas vs. Calgary is $640k take home:
Vegas (taxed at 38.9% from https://www.talent.com/tax-calculator?salary=7350000&from=year&region=Nevada): $7.35M -> $4.49M take home
Calgary (taxed at 47.6% from https://ca.talent.com/tax-calculator?salary=7350000&from=year&region=Alberta): $7.35M -> $3.85M take home
If Hanafin stays all 8 years in Vegas, the total take home difference between signing in Vegas vs. Calgary is $5.12M. This would mean Hanafin would have to play over 9 years in Calgary to take home the same earnings as he does in 8 years in Vegas.
