Bergevin is absolutely someone who would make a trade like this. I doubt it happens but he's only made terrible trades.

Tor- Tavares, trade Mathews
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>Draisaitl hasn't proven he can be elite centring his own line. Most of his points come on McDavid's wing. Until he can prove himself on his own line, he isn't an elite centre. Or really a great centre even. Also both Matthews and Eichel are better than Draisaitl by a large margin. Chairelli messed up that contract negotiation, paying him elite 2C money despite him never showing any signs that he can be an elite 2C.</div></div>
I mean drai spent most of the year centering his own line so plus he did all playoffs in 2015-16 I'd say drai is quite the force

I'd rather have Dahlin over Matthews and Tavares is on the verge of resigning with the Islanders. So you can give up any notion that John Tavares is heading for UFA because it's not happening.

Tor- Tavares, trade Mathews
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>1st of all, there is no way TO would make this trade.
2nd if they did put it on the table, Buffalo pulls the trigger immediately. Sure they'll still have major holes but they would have the best 1-2 punch at center in hockey in the very near future. Only Pittsburgh would be able to contend with them in centre depth and not for that long since both Malkin and Crosby will likely start declining a bit in the next couple of years.
Elite Franchise Generational Centres are so rare. There are maybe 5 of them in hockey! You just don't trade people like that.</div></div>
Only Pittsburgh? Ever heard of McDavid and Draisaitl? ;)

Habs pick 2018 draft (1 first, 4 seconds, 1 third, 3 fourth, 1 fifth)
Evan Bouchard and Noah Dobson aren't falling outside the top 10. Canucks are going to take a D with #7. Either Noah or Evan.

Doughty
I never been in favour of trading for Doughty because the price would be too high. It certainly would be a lot higher than Brown. Would be interested how the Leafs would retain Doughty and other core players in 2019/20 with new contracts.

move Ellis! then you get three years of ELC Dahlin instead of having to pay Ellis big bucks next summer

Pits-Van Blockbuster
This is an extreme overpayment by the Pens. I'm a big Canucks fans but if you breakdown the trade, I basically see it this way:
To Pens:
Tanev
To Canucks:
2018 1st round pick (PIT)
2018 2nd round pick (PIT)
2019 2nd round pick (PIT)
This is the price the Flames paid for Hamonic so is high, but possible. Then you have the second part of the trade:
To Pens:
Sutter
To Canucks:
Hagelin, C
Määttä, O
^This is ridiculous, Sutter is a 3rd line center. Trading Hagelin who is a serviceable 3rd line PLUS Määttä who is a fantastic top 4 young Dman is never going to happen unless Rutherford has a gun to his head.
I could realistically see the trade going down like this:
To Pens:
Sutter
Tanev
To Canucks
Hagelin
2018 1st round pick (PIT)
2018 4th round pick (PIT)
2019 2nd round pick (PIT)
With the Canucks retaining salary to make it work. However with Brassard being traded to the Pens earlier today they no longer need someone like Sutter.

Karlson trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Burebure</b></div><div>Maybe another prospect but this seems like a good trade.</div></div>
A good start but if Ottawa did this they would lose a fanbase regardless of how this sets up the future. They are already having problems selling tickets if he goes and there is no marquee player involved that will help sell tickets OMG. You should hear the radio with just the Idea of Ottawa entertaining trade talks. The Ottawa people are crazy for this guy and he is arguably the best d man in the league and top 3 players in the league in his prime. You will need more to get him. The only way you get him without a marquee player would be if he refused to sign an extension with ottawa and it was clear he didn't want to be here. This will be like the Lindros or gretzky trade in the cost to get this player and the ottawa fallout would be the same as it was in Edmonton.
I live in Ottawa but am not a fan of the team at all. I only go to games to see big name teams and Montreal lol

If you take out the 3rd rd pick of this trade, then the trade could happen.
