I challenge you to show me any even remotely reliable source that suggests those comments of yours are true. Anything showing that he’s been offered to MTL. My life savings are on it, because you’re talking out your a$$ right now.
ANA has the cap space now, of course. In 2 years all of the below players we’ll be off of a sub-$1M ELC and on a big boy contract that will all become inflated because of Marner’s deal if we were to sign him

We pass in ANA. But I wish TOR well with him at $11.5M or walking in UFA</div></div>
As for the 2nd point you’re actually slow if you think Marner contract affects the cap. Players want to be paid a certain percentage of the cap based of the years they player in the leagues gurantee McTavish signs Hughes deal and Carlsson sings Eichel deal.

It’s wasn’t Verbeek lol. If you think GMs call each other from trade you’re wrong. It the agents hence how Tkachuk to Florida happened as quickly as it did. As this report about agents making trades has been prove correct by Alan Walsh.
As well you better hope you’re life savings isn’t that much as it’ll cost you when he is traded. No secret why Verbeek wanted Gautheir since 2022 draft.

Duck after Marner trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>I'll agree he's a legit 1st line winger. I wonder how many points he would get playing with less players. Seems like forgot Panarin, maybe Marchand. How about Keller and Robertson, Forsberg. Some of these guys are 80 points players but score more goals. Of the players you and I mentioned only Panarin makes more than Marner. And you can't see he's overpaid?</div></div>
Panarin and Marchand are far too old and are starting to regress. Robertson had a down year and Forsberg nor Keller have the raw skill of Marner.
Like I said he isn't overpaid, just those players are underpaid as all those players signed contract before their breakouts and in Forsberg case is well below the rest of those name mentioned

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jded</b></div><div>Someone is not up to date on their Zegras rumors. Those rumors were dispelled months ago as simply rumors by Elliott based on multiple sources inside Anaheim, something every ‘rumor’ has lacked.
Nobody who knows hockey doesn’t like Marner. But not every team wants to build their roster like TOR did. ANA will have to lock up their entire core in the next 2 years coming off of ELCs. The absolute worst way to do that would be by setting the precedent of an $11.5M comp in Marner. Terry is $7M. That's the type of comparison that sets the team up well.
I wish Mitch and the Leafs well, and I’d love him in ANA for $9.5M. But considering his ask and where the ducks are at, he’s not for us, especially at that trade cost.
If we’re being real, this is all moot anyway. The dude isn’t waiving, especially not for ANA. TOR are going to be faced with resigning him next offseason or letting him walk a UFA like his agent prefers. My money is on the former</div></div>
They offered Zegras up before and they will again. I'll bet money that Zegras isn't on the roster by the end of 2025 season. They offered him to MTL multiple times for a Reinbacher. Verbeek wants to move him and it's the perfect situation to move. him.
As for your 2nd point Anahiem has the cap space to do so and even with Marner making as much it helps them in negotiating as it forces the players under team control to take less to maximize the team control, something our previous GM (Kyle dubs) didn't understood fully. Not to mention they cap will be almost 10 million higher when Carlsson contract is up and 5 million when Mctavish is up and 15 million when Levnushov contract is up. We aint in a flat cap world anymore

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>It boggles my mind when folks say Marner is not overpaid, He is 9th higher paid player in the league. Does anyone truly believe he the 9th best player? He might be 9th best winger.
He was overpaid when he signed that contract. Carolina's Aho and Marner had IDENTICAL stats for two years before they came up for their RFA contract. Aho got 8.5m X 5 years. Marner 11m X 8 years.
An overpaid of 2m per year, but Leafs have a habit of paying hometown premiums.
If Marner wasn't a Leaf can you say you pay a player with Marner's record 12 - 13m starting in 25/26?</div></div>
100% he would and if he wasn't on Toronto we would talk about how there's a legitimately 1st line winger that plays elite defence and can score 90 points a season.
Also Marner is a top 5 winger in the league it hard to argue against that. Tkachuk, Ratanen, Kucherov and Pasta. Those are the only wingers anyone should be taking over Marner.

I think the Leafs can't afford to screw up a Marner trade by trading for a lesser version of him who doesn't play defense. They need to get a proven top 2/4 defenceman back, or a collection of picks and prospects with ultimate cap freedom.</div></div>
Zegras will have Matthews with him who will help him with getting there.
Zegras has potential and will work in a North South system that loves speed. Having him paired with Nylander and McMann would create a strong line combo.
Here's how I'd lineup the leafs:
Knies-Matthews-Domi
McMann-Zegras-Nylander
Cowan-Tavares-Dellandra(trade with Dallas)
Those are 3 lines you can roll at anytime

And Marner's trade value is what it is. The time to trade him was last June. But to make a bad trade now which this would be is a mistake. If Marner won't play ball at the trade deadline then you just walk him to UFA where he won't get the 8th year deal.</div></div>
Not necessarily as we are getting a great playmaker in Zegras that would pair well with either Nylander or Matthews. Berube will help grow his defensive game

Marner isn't overpaid. He's paid the correct amount the misconception is that Toronto allocated cap space incorrectly under the previous regimes which is being recognized right now.
Marner hits the open market right now teams will give hime 12-13 million in a bidding war.
We can sign UFAs but Treliving openly said he wants to change the core of this team. He signed Matthews, Nylander, Tavares has 1 year left and Rielly has been the heart and soul player of the team for years. Marner will be traded and I'm certain of it

Montour was viewed as a 6th man and blossomed into a number 1 man. For a goalie that is in the AHL that is overpaid it's a fair deal. No team will pay a lot especially when Florida has cap constraints and has a lot of UFAs to resign with minimal NHL ready prospects

It a fair deal, as Zegras has 90 point potential and Luneau is a great RHD prospect. If you think we are going to get more at the deadline you're wrong as Darren Ferris doesn't negioate during the season which will make his value a lot lower

CJ and Elliotte Friedman said it'll be Eichel/Tkachuk trade return. Zegras, Luneau and a 2026 2nd is more than fair and tbh Toronto is getting the short end of the stick. Cap space won't be as valuable anymore with the cap rising hence why coaches are being fired more often and teams are paying more such as Toronto paying out Berube St. Louis contract, NJD doing the same with Keefe

Zegras has been on the block for Anaheim for the past year. A lot of team will pay Marner 11.5 for elite RW that can play in all situations. As well it’s been said from CJ, Elliotte and other insiders that Marner will get an Eichel/Tkcahuk like return as he would come with a contract extension. This is more than a fair deal as it helps Anaheim to becomes contenders and it helps Toronto redistribute cap space in other areas while getting players to support the window.

Stolarz is set to make 3.5M+x3 or 4 and which would be a lot for a backup, and while that's less than Knight, he's 30 which isn't too old for a goalie but he's much older than Knight. They'll have a much longer window with Knight if he becomes elite at 25-26 than with Stolarz.</div></div>
I don’t see Stolarz making that money and we also have to consider if Stolarz wanted to make that kind of money he could take less in Florida cause of the zero state tax. It’s the reason why guys in Tampa and Florida are signed amazing value contacts when in reality in a different market they’d be making 11+ million.
Personally I see this as Florida window and they’re gonna keep going all in to hopefully win a cup. If it means parting with Knight to maximize cap space they’ll do it
