FlyersRangers fans What do you think
As a Flyers fan, no thanks. Kreider is clearly the better player right now, but is only signed 1 more year, then is going to want a big raise. The first likely won't play in the NHL for 2-3 years at the earliest, if ever. I'd rather have NoPA's potential w/ cost certainty over a known quantity at a big cap hit + a lottery ticket, in this case. NoPa is only 20, no one knows his ceiling yet.

Realistic Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaptJosef</b></div><div>I get that there are reasons where he could be moved (Ehlers for example - the Flyers take a small amount of cap back, swap two good players coming off down years and address teams needs).
That said Sanheim and Ghost can both play either side. Hagg is terrible and will hopefully be moved out to make Morin the 7th. It's also worth remembering that Provorov wasn't brilliant last season, and expecting Sanheim to be awesome again is a gamble (though a reasonable one). Ghost gives a huge insurance policy. There's a very strong chance he bounces back IMO just because he seems like the kind of guy who plays well in a good team rather than a guy who can carry the team. Frankly a pairing of Ghost - Weber seems perfect. Additionally Braun is here for one year. Ghost could easily be back in the top 4 fairly soon.
I don't think there's a free agent forward who'd give you what Ghost gives you for the same sort of cost. Ghost is understandably terrible at clearing his crease, other than that he's a very good D.
I don't really see much point in the Flyers collecting picks (first round or otherwise) in a major trade unless they're going to be instantly moved for another piece.
Basically I think the most reasonable Montreal trade is just Drouin for Ghost, but I suspect they don't want to move Drouin for precisely the reasons we shouldn't move Ghost.</div></div>
Hey, sorry for the late reply: I completely agree with you. The Canadiens probably will not part with Drouin and the Flyers won't part with Ghost.

I could see Frost (less so Farabee) making the team from camp but I think Rubtsov is the first guy they call up from the Phantoms in season regardless who's down there. I wonder if the hope over the next few seasons if to move one of JVR or Voracek and lose the other in the expansion draft (with a first round pick or prospect or other incentive).
Makes a lot of cap sense for the Flyers down the road with the likes of Frost, Farabee, Rubtsov, Ratcliffe, Allison, Brink, etc, all seemingly good beats to at least be NHL quality players.</div></div>
Yeah, I'm high on Rubtsov. Think he'll be a Coyle-esque player for us. I do agree Vora or JVR are one of the players who likely go to Seattle. Should be interesting to see.

Minor Moves Cap Grooves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaptJosef</b></div><div>The problem is that LITR doesn't remove the players cap hit from the teams cap total - it expands it by a certain amount (which depends on when and how it's done). Thanks, I understand the LTIR mechanic is more complicated. I was purposefully keeping the explanation as simple as possible to get at the reasons for the deal; why it makes sense for both teams.
MacArthur's salary is higher than his AAV, whereas Schlemko's is lower than his AAV. Melnyk is notoriously cheap. He gets to the cap floor more efficiently, with less real money spent by making the deal, period.

Drouin and Ehlers
Byron was actually very close in points per game as Ehlers and also half the price. Juulsen is still a promising prospect and a first rounder is normally treated like gold. Yes Ehlers is the best player in the deal but this is a lot closer than people think.

If they move Barrie it's too improve their roster. A straight Barrie for Kadri would be a better option with maybe a mid pick from the Avs due to UFA status soon.</div></div>
Id do Kadri for Barrie

Big RFAs Deals and Making Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaptJosef</b></div><div>Probably, but it's been well documented that the Pens would probably like to add more picks by moving down as the farm is getting thin. If it wasn't Flyers - Pens I think it's fairly realistic.</div></div>
I haven’t heard anything about them actually wanting to move down. I’ve heard they’d be willing to trade the pick to win now, but all I’ve heard is that media talking heads have brought it up as an idea. But the farm system isn’t necessarily thin with bodies, just talent. So what’s good moving down when you can get better talent. I’ve heard they are more in the idea of moving guys like Rust, Hornqvist, Bjugstad, Gudbranson, JJ to get mid-lower draft picks and build their farm that way. The pens have a bunch of prospects who likely end up as bottom 6/bottom pair D. They are thin on guys who have a top 6/top 4 D ceiling.

Big RFAs Deals and Making Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaptJosef</b></div><div>I take all the points you're making, I guess the Jets would rather move a guy like Perreault but obviously there won't be much return for him. WPG has built well from drafting and acquiring young talent, that feels more in their wheelhouse.
That said:
I don't think either of these trades are much better. Obviously the 7thOA pick is a big haul but Larsson is meh though I guess it serves a need. I don't think JP has much value here although I do think he could potentially still shine elsewhere. His trade value is minimal - EDM basically had the choice to get anything at all for him or he's going to the KHL and they get nothing. Juulsen is massively overhyped by the MTL fans who say he's the second coming but also include him in every deal (not saying he's trash, just not as high as implied)... I don't think Frost has less value that him.
I can see that perhaps my deal is short though. What if the 2020 1st was added?</div></div>
I'm not saying your deal is bad (though making it your 1st rather than Pit would make it fair). I am saying that it doesn fit the jets' need they would address by trading ehlers.
The Larsson trade gives us a guy to replace trouba in his shutdown role. don't forget we can also draft a potential star with 11 OA. Puju could be very good and be viewed as a replacement for ehlers and 38 OA could get us a good prospect who slipped out of the 1st round. Juulsen/brook address a need long-term on the right side as both project to be top 4 RD. We are also getting potentially 15 OA and a 2nd.
What most people do not get on this site is that the only ehlers trade that makes sense for the jets is for a trouba replacement on the top pairing (only defensively of course) or for a 2nd line C. Not to mention that the acquired player needs to be similar age and on a long-term contract

My Most Straight Forward and Reasonable Attempt
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaptJosef</b></div><div>Opps, Lindblom should be on the 3rd line - forgot to move him.
It's just hard for me to trade Ghost for a 3rd line player, even with the first. He's a really good player who had a down year on a really good contract. I think he'll bounce back big to being a 45-55 point D on a better alround team. That would make his production to cap hit a huge competative advantage. I just don't think you win a trade like that.</div></div>
I just I feel like too much money is on the backend right now and Ghost playing on the 3rd pairing is a waste and all it will do is bring his value down.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaptJosef</b></div><div>Oh no, now we'd only have sux 20 goal scorers (3rd most in the league). Plus we have tons more depth at centre with a very good 2-way centre. It's been pointed out that Hayes 5v5 point scoring over the past few seasons is almost the same as Duchene's who's the number one UFA centre. Fact is you always give something to acquire a player. In a trade it's picks and player assets, for a UFA it's extra cap space. Flyers had plenty of cap and used it. Karlsson got 11.5, Skinner got 9, Nelson got 6(!). Good players are getting more expensive.</div></div>
The fact is, we got a high quality player who can help us win now, and will make our team more structured and deep for a 5th round pick.....

Maybe but the team was also in desperate need to add a 2C. Yes it's a overpay but probably not by much considering TSN was projecting him in a 6X6.6 to 6x6.8 range and other sites had him at 7x7. Considering the other options for 2C as free agents this was the logical choice. Only lost a 5th round pick and locked the guy up they were going to target anyway where if they traded for a 2C under contract we'd likely be losing a valuable asset for the future of the team. Plus hopefully given more opportunity of the PP and playing with JvR and TK he may be able to rack up more points and give PK 2 a shot in the ass.

Kevin Hayes is more than just scoring. He upgrades the center depth, helps the pk, and allows Nolan Patrick to have more favorable matchups so he can develop. Wait a few years and 7 Million will be nothing just like how 5 million is a reasonable contract now.

The team 2 years ago made the playoffs, yet the pens absolutely murdered them, they had Val Filppula as a 3C and Jori Lehtera as a 4C, with Brandon Manning and Andrew MacDonald playing 17+ minutes a game, and Lehtera and Filppula going out trying to preserve a lead with 3 minutes left in the game. We did not have the depth then like we do now, and we have Carter Hart. This season is one of the most promising seasons we have had in a long time and we have a lot to look forward too. (Hopefully)
