Thread: Knight realistic off-season
That's just about as least realistic for the Knights as it gets... See, realistic would have been to keep the team as it is, maybe losing a player or two. How is it any realistic to trade the whole defense ?

Trade with Winnipeg : Why would we give up our best defenseman for a goalie we don't need and a worse defensman ? Thompson, Hill and Brossoit have gotten us 1st in the West and in the Conference Final. No thanks... and that's not even considering the fact Pietrangelo has a full NMC...

Trade with Philly : Hague is massive and only getting better. Farabee is good, sure, but that just kills off our defense, which is where the Knights are best. And you add Brisson, one of our top offensive prospects. It's probably a good deal, but I don't really get why either team does it

Trade with San Jose : We just throw away William Karlsson and all we get is 2 x 4th and a 7th ? Have you watched Karlsson this post-season ? He's a great 2-way center. And you're signing Max Domi over him ? Oof. All Domi's got is his contract's cheaper, according to you, that's it. I'm keeping Karlsson, cause Domi probably will want more than only 3.8M.

Trade with Los Angeles : Same as Karlsson, we give up on the best shot blocking defenseman in the league to rejuvenate him in an okay defenseman, a 6th and a 7th. I'd much rather keep Martinez who has been absolutely amazing all his career.

That defense doesn't look anywhere as promising as the actual defense. Especially signing Clifton for absolutely no reason when we have Kaeden Korczak, Brayden Pachal, Daniil Miromanov and Lukas Cormier in our prospect pool. Way better off starting them if you're gonna destroy the D-core.

Same with signing Evan Rodrigues, when you have Brett Howden in your team that you can just sign as a RFA.

Yeah no from Vegas. No way we are paying this much for Auston Matthews, that is not even a need and that could just walk off next year cause he's not happy with being traded. Eichel is absolutely fine as the #1C.

Nic Hague has been improving massively and turning into the beast we were hoping, William Karlsson is vastly underrated and has been very solid for us. Then you add one of our best defensive prospects Kaeden Korczak, an intriguing 2-way prospect in Ivan Morozov, 2 x 1sts and a 2nd. That's terrible for the VGK.

The argument "Vegas prospect pool is super weak" does not justify giving up that much. Hague's worth a 1st, Korczak is worth a 2nd, Morozov is worth a 2nd, Karlsson is worth a 2nd... So 3 x 1sts and 3 x 2nds for Matthews and 2 x 5th ? And all the while giving us massive cap problems cause Matthews, Marchessault, Stephenson and Martinez would all be UFA the following summer. I'd rather keep our core as it is honestly and I sure hope that's not a McCrimmond idea to ever go after Matthews.

The initial idea of this was keeping O'Reilly, but listening to the SDPN podcast, they seemed pretty clear he won't be back. He's definitely a better option than Zucker or Lowry, but I had to factor him not coming back.

There are not only "playoffs performers", it was also about bringing character and role players as you said, which I believe the Leafs are lacking.

The idea of Sanheim is getting a much better defenseman to play with Morgan Reilly. He doesn't have the playoffs experience yet, but it sure gives a solid defense core to the Leafs, better all around. The only option in that sense in UFAs is Dumba and I don't see him signing in Toronto.
