Next season

Come on Stan! A third line of Sharp-Vermette-Teravainen had to go 7 games to beat Anaheim. Kampf better not be our third line center of the future or we’re going to be last place for a long time. Fourth line center of the future, sure. I was ready to ask to send him packing but he has looked much better since Colliton took over so maybe we can have a fourth line that actually puts up points every now and then.

Patrick Kane comes home
Not advocating for a Kane trade but I think if the Blackhawks are serious about trading him it signals a true rebuild and they should eat 3-4mil. Then we can have a fun conversation about the return. Kane for 4.5 years at 6-7mil? That would return A LOT.

BOWMAN YOU SUCK SO MUCH AARRGHHH Are Strome and Perlini even good
Classic change of scenery trade. Schmaltz has taken a step back in his development this year and has widely been criticized for his lack of effort in the tough areas. Very hesitant to get into board battles. Also rumor is he was bad for the locker room.
Strome (3rd overall 2015) and Perlini (12th overall 2014) haven't developed as expected either in Arizona, but both obviously have potential. Strome played with DeBrincat in the OHL, so we're hoping for a return of chemistry there. Also saves in cap space moving forward. I definitely thought we'd get more for Schmaltz, especially closer to the trade deadline, but the key is we're moving on from him.

Part 2 - No major moves draft Cozens sign Dzingel
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wadejos123</b></div><div>No need for another LHD because even without Gus we still have Kieth, Beaudan, and Krys. If you want to upgrade on gus your gonna have to trade him off the roster first to make room</div></div>
Yeah I’m fine with trading him. I just want better, you know? Like Keith is fine but clearly on the decline. I’m interested in Beaudin, and Krys I could give a chance, I just want someone established and good that I don’t have to question.

Part 2 - No major moves draft Cozens sign Dzingel
Love drafting Dylan Cozens. If we don’t get a top two pick I think he should definitely be the pick. Great attitude guy.
I think this is a great start, Dzingel seems to be a consensus target. With 12 million left in cap space I’d love to see us add some LHD help, maybe target Gardiner? Because my one issue is with Gustafsson. We’ve seen his offensive talent but I can’t stand to watch him in the defensive zone anymore and I’d prefer if he didn’t have a spot, or at the very least be a 3rd pair guy.
Also Schmaltz seems to be having an attitude problem. Maybe he’s just not trying because he knows this team isn’t anywhere close to a playoff spot so if we get a more talented roster he’ll try hard again?

Sign Ian Mitchell for 2nd pair RHD and let Gus be a scratch.

What next years team should be
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KSIxSKULLS</b></div><div>Why would the Habs trade for a #6 defensemen (for a 2nd round pick at that) when we already have 10 guys who are potentially better than him</div></div>
This and Anisimov trades wouldn't happen. Gus is a fringe NHL/AHL defenseman and Anisimov at 4.5m will definitely not get a 2nd.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>There is absolutely NO way the Leafs bite on that deal.</div></div>
From what angle? Leafs are already in first place without him, this gives you another top 6 center/wing and a solid defenseman. Both players are upgrades at the position. Plus that 2nd round pick is early 2nd round. Only reason TOR wouldn't take this is because a playoff contender offered something more. Or unless they truly feel he will sign.

Hawks w Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Nylander and Leivo for Schmaltz....no thanks Leafs. Since you paid Nylander 8m a year, shouldn't the Leafs be expected 8m in value back?</div></div>
I wouldn't say the Leafs need 8m back, they are definitely not choosing to give him that much. At this point the Leafs are doing just fine without him so anything worthwhile that they can receive in compensation is a gain. They wouldn't take the deal above but I still think Schmaltz, a young defenseman (Forsling or Murphy) and our second round pick is enough for the Leafs. Other, more competitive, teams might offer more though so we may miss out anyways. Personally, I wouldn't want Nylander unless we can shed salary elsewhere. I think it takes more than him to make us competitive again.

Some Cap Space - Bring in Sikura and Edjsell
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stan_Bowman</b></div><div>You aren’t wrong, personally I want them to earn their spot, or be brought up to fill in for an injury... but with young guys it’s hard to get a good read.</div></div>
I'd bring up Edjsell cause I'm not sold on him yet. Wouldn't be surprised if we're keeping Sikura in AHL so we can re-sign him for dirt cheap, but I would like to see him get some NHL experience in the second half of the season or if a couple injuries pop up. If this team had a shot at making/competing in the playoffs I think we would have seen him already.

Rebuild and lottery luck Hughes
In my eyes Colorado needs to and should want to do something. They are 5th in the Central, hanging on to that second wild card spot, and they have the best line in hockey but fall off after that. Now they could slot Kane in on that second line for four more year. Considering he's still scoring at over a point per game, the Avs aren't giving up anyone notable on their current roster and still have a strong prospect pool to draw from, I felt Colorado may have been persuaded. Could knock out that extra second round pick. But I feel 4.5 years of Kane is worth 2 firsts and two young, highly touted but yet unproven, prospects.
