I really think Strome just needed a change of scenery. I think with other teams focusing on Toews and Kane, hes going to be playing his game, and chemistry with Debrincat helps too

I think the answer is YES. I think this is a good move for the long run. Dylan Strome is the #3 overall pick in the 2015 draft. He's a real centerman that AZ's been messing up his development. Perlini is a fine player in his own right. LOTs of cap space next year. Schmaltz was due a raise...Perlini won't get Schmaltz money. Stan should extend him now and then play him opposite Kane to build him back to his level last year. Don't forget that Schmaltz scored most of his points last year when he played as the LW to Kane.

Ok. Schmaltz seems like a better short-term solution, but you guys are tanking so these guys are better for your long-term solution. If strome pans out in the next few years this is a fair valued deal. Perlini is good as well. Both of these guys have good upside potential. So this is fine it's a relatively good deal.

Also, more cap space for Chicago in the short run

Yea chance to sign Debrincat and a few other players in future years. Next year will also help with the 82M Cap Space.

Classic change of scenery trade. Schmaltz has taken a step back in his development this year and has widely been criticized for his lack of effort in the tough areas. Very hesitant to get into board battles. Also rumor is he was bad for the locker room.

Strome (3rd overall 2015) and Perlini (12th overall 2014) haven't developed as expected either in Arizona, but both obviously have potential. Strome played with DeBrincat in the OHL, so we're hoping for a return of chemistry there. Also saves in cap space moving forward. I definitely thought we'd get more for Schmaltz, especially closer to the trade deadline, but the key is we're moving on from him.

You say bowman you suck and then proceed to tell us that you know nothing about the guys in return. Makes a lot of sense.

It's a good deal to add depth. Strome's face off percentage is really good and that's a big weakness for this hawks team. Strome has unlimited potential, he just needs help reaching it. Centering the 4th line in AZ is not going to help him develop. Perlini can be a 20 goal guy (He had 17 last season on a terrible AZ team) and can be pretty physical. Both guys are young with many years left.

Strome teared it up in the OHL and was the captain of Team Canada at the WJC. So yeah, he's a pretty good hockey player.

That being said, regardless of being pick 3OA, Strome's biggest weakness is his skating. Which is a big issue because today's NHL is all about speed. So I personally think Strome is going to be a bust.
