Latest Rumor CAR
Was about to post an idea similar to this, glad to see it might be a rumor. I was thinking Hawks could have even more leverage to get the BUF 3rd out of it too, I didn't have CAR salary retention though. Also glad to see you didn't succumb to those out there clamoring for Turbo or Hamilton in return, staying realistic.

Another rebuild idea
I don’t really see this team as being any better than what we have now. Fortin only has speed and doesn’t yet know how to use it so I think he needs time in the AHL to develop. Have some more cap space to try and sign some guys but with that there’s always the chance no one signs here. Getting the #1 or #2 overall in the draft would help too.

Jost would be a key piece of deal that would include Toews or Kane, I don't think we can pry him away with Anisimov, though I would dismiss all negative things I've said about Bowman if he could pull that off.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabres89</b></div><div>Im gonna say no. Reinhart is on pace for 70 plain vanilla points at under 4 mill. The two firsts might not even be til next year. Guhle is a top prospect and sheary might be useful yet. Even at 8.5 its a lot to give up for a winger on the down swing.</div></div>
Why is everyone saying he's on the downswing? I get he's thirty and people THINK that means he should be regressing, but he isn't yet. He's actually on pace to have the second highest scoring season of his career, even though the Hawks are a brutal team around him. Marty St Louis still had back to back 90+ point seasons at ages 34-35, maybe Kane does the same? Reinhart's deal is for sure a steal at the moment but after next season you'll see that increase by a good chunk.
I think this has been the most realistic package for Kane that I've seen. Hawks won't want to eat salary but I agree I think with a little negotiating they could eat 2-2.5

Sikura should be given a chance this year after the trade deadline. I'd like to give Ejdsell a chance too because I think we need to find out if he's got game or not. My biggest concern with him is his skating and we're already a pretty slow team. I like Entwistle and would love to watch him in the WJC if he makes Canada's team, but I think it might be a stretch. I like his potential but he needs more time to develop.</div></div>
And as I was typing this they called up Sikura.

Optimistic Blackhawks 2019
Still doesn't feel like enough to me. I don't think we have a strong defense or defensive forwards so whereas this will improve us offensively, I still see overall defense as a major concern. If a team shuts down the second line it will still be difficult to find secondary scoring. I could see these guys competing for a wildcard spot but losing in the first round again if they do make the playoffs. I think Ian Mitchell could be third pair defense with Seabrook playing his off side. Then I would use some of that cap space for stronger 2C/3C cause I'm not sold on Strome being 2C and would move Sikura to wing on 3rd line. We can also probably resign Perlini for 1.5M or less since he's yet to record a point for us, but given how much Stan gave Gus and Manning, I wouldn't put it past him to overpay.
If you can't tell I'm very pessimistic about our future.

I like Hayden-Kampf-Kahun as a fourth line. I think you put them together to form chemistry and make them realize they can succeed in that role. The sad reality of this team is we're playing those three guys in top six roles. That's why we're in last place, almost everyone on this team is slotted a line or two too high.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>5 years of Kane or 10 years of Jost, Kaut, Timmins, and Top picks...its a no brainier.
ITs a bad trade to give up taht much youth for Kane. Sorry but its a homerish trade return especially from an up and ocming division rival Avs</div></div>
I truly don't think it's that egregious of a trade. What if the Avs win 3 cups over the next 5 years? Also, 10 years? If those prospects are as good as you think they'll become, you'll need to pay them much sooner and I'm not sure Avs have the cap space if Rantanen gets paid and they want to keep everyone else around. Hawks should be a warning to teams who dish out long, expensive contracts.
My view is Jost is the elite prospect but only has 10 points in 26 games this year. Nick Schmaltz had 11 points in 23 games and we gave up on him even after he had 52 points last year (not saying that was the right move at all just making a point). Jost only had 22. If he only gets 30 points this year people are going to be whispering the b word. Then Kaut is a good prospect but it's not like he's elite. And Timmins hasn't played all year due to head injuries. They even sent him home after rehab setbacks to try to get his morale up. That's a MAJOR red flag. You guys get the elite 80 point scorer. We are the ones taking risks on prospects who may never pan out. The OTT 1st is an insurance policy. The late 1st isn't special, but needed since it's the best you've got and we're eating a lot of salary to a division rival for 5 years.
That's just how I see everything. I think both sides of this trade have strong value, I also thought the Avs would want to milk all the opportunity they have this year with Rantanen on his ELC and the next few years while Landeskog and MacKinnon are on cheap contracts. There's even enough money to bring back Duchene next year (if you'd want to) and put him next to Kane, and you still have a lot of young talent like Makar, Sampo Ranta, Shane Bowers, AJ Greer, Kamanev, Ty Lewis and Nic Meloche. What if we switched Kaut with Ranta, Bowers or Lewis?

Kane is an amazing player but all this does is give a dvision rival a huge kick start at a young rebuild and it kills the Avs youth on the roster and in the pipeline forcing them into a win now window.
Its just bad business to give that much youth for a team like the Avs who are just going to enter into their compete window. Why shrink it before it even starts</div></div>
Which is also why I retained money so you're getting 5 years of Kane at 6.9 mil. It's fine if you don't want to trade youth for an exceptional chance now, I feel like this gives the Avs an incredible 5 year window.

It is for sure, it's more of none of those pieces coming back have already proven themselves and the hawks would be paying 3.6 mil per year to have Patrick Kane play against them in their own division so I added a couple extra picks.

Wait, what? Keith can still lead a strong 2nd pairing and he's only 5.5mil in cap hit and even less in actual salary paid. He'll be one of the top defensemen on the market at the trade deadline, where prices will skyrocket. Don't forget Kimmo Timonen hadn't played in a year because of health concerns and netted a second and conditional 4th rounder that could have turned into another second rounder. Of course, it was Stan Bowman who made that trade, but point is a team in need could make a significant offer.

Also, apparently Kane is telling the front office to go hard on Panarin and Kane has been talking to Panarin about coming back. I think there's about a 70% chance Panarin in wearing a Blackhawks sweater next year. Then begs the question, who's going to center Kane and Panarin as Strome can't do it and Anisimov i'm not sure can do it anymore. If that Hawks made any 2 moves, I would give OTT and offer they can't refuse to acquire Duchene now and Panarin arrives in the offseason. A line of Panarin - Duchene - Kane would probably be the best line in hockey.</div></div>
Do you think Duchene signs an extension wherever he is dealt? Could just wait until free agency to make him an offer?

Three cups ain't bad. But you're exactly right, it was trading away young studs who were starting to produce in the NHL. Don't you dare call Nylander a stud. Good upside prospect, but some people are already calling him a bust for being taken 8th overall.

The more I think about it the more I really like this trade. BUF makes their team that much stronger for a playoff run and gets to shed a few contracts. Chicago may even be concerned that the return they are getting won’t help for a few years, but I think it’ll be good to create another wave of talent after the current crop of prospects has been up for a couple years.
