Description
I'll start this post by admitting I'm a CHI fan AND I'm trying to think outside of the box. Any BUF fan can say, let's stay the course...keep our picks...and I couldn't blame them AT ALL!

Let's think about direction of each team and does BUF think they can win now with a trade? Brandon Saad has been the best player on the Hawks since Jeremy Colliton took over. 8 points in his last 10 games...ALL 5v5! That's huge because you don't "need" him to be on your PP to score. Anisimov is a very solid 2-way player that has great net front presences and can more than adequately run that 3rd line which is a scary talented and physical 3rd line. It's EXACTLY what you need in the playoffs. The average size of those 3 players a 6'3" and 200 lbs. For a 3rd line that has accounted for 35 points so far. That's serious 3rd line help! Rutta and the Cap retainage are to replace the D depth.

What does BUF lose. Well, Scandella is 5th on the team in ice time. He's a large cap hit that's replaceable....and on the IR by the way. Hunwick who really isn't that good a dman in general, but ALSO on the IR by the way. Berglund is getting 13 minutes a game. BUF can shed themselves of a bad signing. So these are (3) additions by subtraction. Yes, it'll cost you (2) 1st round picks, BUT you get to keep ALL of your own picks. none of these picks are BUF's.

What GM wouldn't be excited about the progression of this team...AND none of the picks were our own. We traded away assets that we didn't want...for picks...then those picks for players that better fit our system.

Anyway. Looking for constructive criticism. I think this could really help out BUF this year and certainly CHI is in rebuild/retool mode.

Chicago accepts, honestly probably a bit of an overpay by Buffalo but if both teams are comfortable with it I think it works.

That might be true. I thought about dropping the 2021 2nd because of STLs standing, but I ultimately decided to leave it in for a few reasons. Any TDL move will require a 1st, but this adds taking on bad contracts and with term...while providing quality non rentals with term. Also, STL's pick is protected this year. Thanks for the input!

You're going to have to give up 1 of those for any TDL deal. What would you rather have? Brassard?!?!

For what reason should the sabres give up a first at the trade deadline when they are such a young team. Don't leverage future for one year.

Ok yeah, I can support that all day. They're in a good position for the future. What would you say to a Saad for the STL 1st and either hunwick or scandella?

The more I think about it the more I really like this trade. BUF makes their team that much stronger for a playoff run and gets to shed a few contracts. Chicago may even be concerned that the return they are getting won’t help for a few years, but I think it’ll be good to create another wave of talent after the current crop of prospects has been up for a couple years.

Yeah could be an overpayment. Chicago did this during our cup run. Gave up picks and prospects almost every year. The dumpster fire we’re going through now is worth it though because of three cups.

It's not just CHI, but PIT did this trading away picks. TBL is currently doing it with JMcD. It's almost...almost a requirement in order to get all that top end talent all on 1 roster.
