Set the league on fire
It would be insane, and on-brand for Vegas to keep the player carousel spinning... I just feel like Vegas gives up too much in this trade.

Last two years of his contract are $1.75M each (in real dollars). And I was about to say, upgrade it to a 3rd or 4th, and I think I could better justify it, particular if they just buy him out.
The $1.4M cap hit isn't anything, but asking a team that isn't TML or something in a post-covid/ flat cap era to take on that much real money for that little of a return isn't very effective.

I get it, but you’re essentially asking CBJ to pay $3.5M to move up from a 7th to a 6th. Plus, he’d take up a roster spot better used for a prospect who needs playing time.
I’d decline it.

There were some reports that said they may be looking to move on last summer from him. I'm sure Tavares and Pietrangelo haven't been approached to waive. I was speaking to if they wanted Stamkos that bad, they'd find a way to keep him. Reports of asking him to waive show they think they can win without him. If I'm Stamkos I want to show them that I can win without them.</div></div>
They won the cup with him playing 2:47 seconds last year of course they can

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chrismurtagh</b></div><div>I've never understood why someone would enact the NMC. If the team comes to you and is looking to trade you, wouldn't you think they don't value you as much as you should be? I get it's great living in Tampa, no state tax, and the team is awesome, but if it were me it would be tough for management to say we are looking to trade you and for me to want to stay.</div></div>
From a very superficial standpoint, he's contributing to the team success statistically and he probably feels like he's an important part of the team and there is no reason to trade him. And he'd be right in a sense. Having 2 one timer threats on each side (Stamkos and Kucherov) gives Point and Hedman open space since teams aren't as focused on them. If the entire game was just a powerplay, Stamkos could win the Rocket again cause with time and space his shot is lethal. He puts up points consistently, he's a huge locker room guy, he's the captain, he's a big reason for this team winning 2 straight cups. However, he plays 2nd line minutes 5 on 5, he doesn't get to start shifts in the offensive zone as much the 1st line, he's the third option when the team needs goals and he makes 8.5 mil. Next year Point is probably signing for 9 (QO) so he'd be the 4th highest paid forward on the team. I could only see him waiving if he's got a desire to play top line center again on a team that's just as offensively gifted like a Vegas. But I doubt it.

I'm just the opposite if I give up hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars to control where I work and live I'm not waiving it.
His contract is almost buy-out proof also his base pay is only 1 million per year the rest is a guaranteed bonus not subject to buyout so they'd save 667 k cap space

I dont think so as the Rangers would use this return in an Eichel trade so the first would be required. I look at it this way....Glass and the 1st is for Mika. Reeves and the 3rd is for the Rangers retaining salary.

I know that but it's still eating an extra $4 mil for a winger which we already have a ton of.

Detroit already have 9 waiver eligible wingers penned in for next season + Raymond and Berggren.

The wings won't be competitive until after his contract is up. You move up 15ish picks to take on a player that you can use and is very cheap. It's not like he's going to be what keeps the wings from competing.</div></div>
Wings have tons of players in their bottom 6 that provide the exact same style of play as William Carrier Givani Smith is one and he's much cheaper. Detroit needs high end scoring wingers not a bunch of useless 3rd and 4th line players.

Rangers accept. Not because I want them to but because this is the type of trade i believe they will make.
I would think Martinez signs for more AAV than that. Other trades are fine. No MAF trade and roster short at least 2 players just like this past season?

Yeah vegas isn’t going to give up Stephenson in that deal. That’s what I’m telling you lol. Glass is the replacement. Malkin will be 35 and it’s known he needs a knee surgery.

A different center
As a Caps fan I proposed this trade like a month ago. I think it's doable for both teams. The main issue is Caps need a top 6 back now and don't know if Glass is ready due to his injuries. They'd probably do it for Krebs but don't think VGK would. Still, Kuz would be a great match for VGK.

Maybe Detroit for one year… they haven’t retained any contracts yet I believe, and I don’t think it would cost more than a 4th for the middle team to retain 50%. For example, it only took a 5th round pick for the sharks to retain 50% on Mattias Janmark at the deadline.
