Making Sense of a Phaneuf Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rush5154</b></div><div>Ottawa, and no other team - beyond those needing to reach the salary floor - would do this trade. Teams are trying to get away from:
1. Older players
2. Players with bad contracts
3. Old players with bad contracts
Bobby Ryan's contract is bad enough/unmoveable so adding Gaborik would not bode well for Dorion.</div></div>
Phaneuf's contract is way worse. This may be the only chance they ever have to get rid of it. They're going to need to take some salary back either way.

Trading away those who should be traded
Andrew Shaw is NOT a T6F. Plus, there's no way that the Jets are trading a T4 man at this juncture of the season.

good plan overall, however Backlund can probably sign for a bit more than 4.5m, and O'Reilly is probably worth a lot more than what you've indicated.

Eugene Melnyk is not one to agree with a deal in which he's retaining salary. It's unfortunate, because the deal totally works.

Minor tweaks, but realistic ones that help now and in the future
Pittsburgh rates Gustavsson very highly. Unlikely they give him away as a throw in in this trade.

Trade Deadline Approach
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PenGoater99</b></div><div>I don't think this is such a bad deal, especially considering Smith can kill penalties and can score as well</div></div>
I'm a Senators fan. I definitely agree with his ability to kill penalties, and he's great at using his speed. I've always really liked him, I think he's an effective player, but his scoring touch is gone. It was ballooned for a couple of years essentially because of Mark Stone's ability to carry him. Stone was the reason he scored so much. I'd be very pleased with a return of Kylington.

"can fight," is probably not a reason for acquiring Domi. That's what the Penguins (for some ungodly reason) have Ryan Reaves for. If you're giving away a scoring winger in Guentzel, you better get one in return, and Domi just doesn't seem like that at the moment.

Trade Deadline: The Quest for Ping Pong Balls
I really like the concept of all of your trade deals, they all make a lot of sense. Maybe price is a bit too steep with Kane. I know that it's what the Sabres actually want, but I don't know if they're actually going to get it. But who knows, Minnesota paid that insane price for Hanzal last year. Maybe a lesser prospect than Milano would get the deal done. Other than that, this is really solid.

Do not rebuild
Cody Ceci should be fired into the sun. NOT RESIGNED. Also, every player not he 4th and 5th of your forward lines is terrible. This team would likely be worse than the current version of the Sens.

Man, Canucks fans are as delusional as Jim Benning is. Jacob Markstrom is 27 years old, this right now is about as good as he's going to get. His "potential," has more than likely been reached by now.
