I would certainly go along with that. Johnsson+nylander is magical.

Post allstar roster and lines without a trade Is it enough for a playoff push
The Leafs shouldn't be so worried about the contract as they are winning now. Marincin has been OK. But if the Leafs go with the roster you have shown, there still might be a injury in the next two months and Leafs might have to recall Sandin anyway.
Saw Liljegren the other night. He might have learned a valuable lesson. The NHL game is faster than the AHL. A few times he gathered the puck and seem to think "What is my best play?" Then a Hawk player was on him. Gotta learn"the best play" has been thought out, before you touch the puck.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Couvy</b></div><div>I think that Sandin and Liljegren will be on separate pairings to start their careers</div></div>
Why? They have built in chemistry because they've played a tonne together in the minors. So they don't have to feel things out, they can just do what they do.

Babs wouldnt do it but I wonder how this would look
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles777</b></div><div>I think hyman-tavares-kapanen could be used against opposing teams top lines in the short term as both wingers excel in their own zone. Tavares is average at best defensively, he exerts so much energy in the offensive zone he lacks the speed to back check effectively. Let Matthews-nylander-marner face lesser competition while nylander develops his defensive game - cup contenders need centers that are just as good in their own zone.</div></div>
I just don't see the same things as most. Tavares is terrific at everything, offense, defence and in the neutral zone. I don't get why people think so highly of Kapanen. He's a decent PK guy and has speed to burn but he is often blowing the zone looking for odd man rushes. I think he wants to be Nylander but talks like he wants to be Hyman and is less than either. I also don't think having a old school shutdown line works. The best way to beat Boston's top line is to pin them in their own zone and force them to defend. The best way to do that would he to match up the Leafs 3 best skaters against them and in my opinion Nylander's ability to gain the zone with control makes him the better choice to work with a super line of Matthews and Tavares.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Couvy</b></div><div>Not a bad idea in my opinion. They should also use Nylander on the perimeter on the top PP, he has an underrated shot IMO and he can also pass very well. Back when their power play was the best 2 years ago, Matthew sand Nylander were the perimeter players on the PP, and Marner was with Bozak and JVR on the other. I don't think Nylander was utilized properly on that top PP during Tavares absence either.</div></div>
Nylander hasn't been properly utilized for 2 years. He's a terrific player and a hell of a lot closer to Marner than most want to even consider. Its not his choice that Babs treats him like an afterthought most of the time.

What happens when Hyman and Dermott are back
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>Hyman will need to be traded. I just can't See us going through the season like this.</div></div>
I don't disagree, but the Devils played with a short roster about 5 or 6 years ago if I remember correctly. It could be done. Not at all advisable though.
And judging from other organizatios cap spaces, Leafs may not be the only one playing Russian Roullette with the cap.
Gonna be REAL interesting.....

Which D will they keep next season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Couvy</b></div><div>Sandin and Liljegren will both have to be ready next season, what do you think Dermott will get? Beyond that there is some cap to play with if they want to keep Muzzin. Something tells me that Dubas is into Barrie and will want to try to get something done there.</div></div>
Liljegren is more than ready this year. Sandin would be that by next year. Dermott will be in top-4 and since he can play right side it would be easier to get more steady Dman signed for lower AAV and years since the D core we are developing is great.

If Bracco impesses while Hyman is out

Very true, most people donn’t realize that Bracco marchment and liljegren carry a 925k cap hit under ltir rules.

Extremely significant this season. That cap space is huge. If the leafs keep Hyman, Bracco, liljegren, marchment and pretty much anyone else with a performance bonus can not be called up.

Those rookies are nearly ready this year, in those roles by next they should be more or less fine.
Also I would NOT give that contract to Barrie

Is it possible to get Barrie Extended
I dont think signing him to 8 years is the best idea. A guy with his size wont have the ability to physically make up for his play when his skating starts to decline. They have guys who will be able to play in the top 4 in rielly, sandin, dermott and liljegren in the future. If they could sign him to a shorter term contract or sign muzzin instead to around a 4 year contract that would be better

Yup. Rielly+Barrie, Muzzin+Ceci, Harpur+Schmaltz. Slide Dermott back in when he returns, bumping out one of Harpur or Schmaltz, and then see how the first 40ish games go in the AHL for one of Sandin or Liljegren. If one looks ready, there's room. If not, there's enough semi-serviceable bodies there to be ok.

Mikheyev with MatthewsNylander
As for the point of this post, I like the lines. Mekheyev I think could score a lot of garbage goals on that line. He's big enough to crash the net and he has decent hands and skates well to also cause damage off the rush. Should make for a fun line to watch.

Lets give Barrie what he wants
Really hoping Sandin and/or Liljegren can come in next year and be solid at minimum. Getting 2 years of Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, Reilly, Anderson, Kapanen, in their prime while those 2 young D-men are on entry level deals yet.. that could be greatness in the making.
