As much as you like to claim Forsberg is just as good as Gaudreau, it is a bold faced lie; Gaudreau is significantly better than Forsberg. Forsberg might be a more complete player, but he's never even had a 65 point season and he's not that much more complete. That trade is absolutely terrible for the Flames. And "instant Swedish chemistry" as a reason is about awful of an excuse I have ever seen to do a terrible trade.
As for Granlund/Ryan, Last season they were separated by 1 point and Granlund's point totals have fallen in 3 consecutive seasons now. While Ryan is by far a more complete player and losing him weakens our center-ice position too much and hurts our penalty kill. Losing what Ryan brings is not worth the giant question mark that is Granlund.

I'd say it's not close to okay because it's a bunch of spare parts for a guy we are hoping can grow to replace Giordano on the top pairing in a couple years.

No one will be traded and I doubt anyone other than Kylington gets signed. We're likely to only carry a 22 man roster and there is more than enough room to sign Kylington.

You are correct, there is no need to trade Hanifin. But, there is also no need to trade Ryan, because trading him at this point would hamper the penalty kill too much, especially in your particular suggestion with Nordstrom as the extra forward.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>t2a2e9j12k2</b></div><div>So you know Jr and sully personally that is awesome. The problem is that in an interview like two weeks ago JR said the biggest hole left to fill was 3rd line center and cap room was the issue.. I can not find the interview now of coarse i believe it was with mark madden though. You can hope Jankowski fills the role in one hand you can sh@t in the other see which one is full quicker. Jankowski could very easily get sent to the minors. It is just as likely that erod is the 3rd line center next year.</div></div>
While the poster you were replying to seems a bit over-enthusiastic about Jankowski, he's not wrong.
Since Jankowski was called up to the NHL the offensive difference at 5v5 between Bennett and Jankowski is just a few points; Jankowski saw little top 6 time, while Bennett saw a decent amount. Last season Jankowski was not himself, I feel like his confidence was hurt by both being forced to the 4th line and the fact the Flames traded him to Toronto in the deal nixed by Kadri. This I believe was the catalyst of a pretty horrific scoring slump for Jankowski in the first half of the season, by then the Flames had changed coaches and the new coach didn't seem to have any faith in Jankowski. I will also point out, Janko is a frustrating player to watch, as he is a big guy that does not use his size effectively. But he has IMO been the Flames best penalty killer (at forward) the past two years and I believe that says a lot since we have had Backlund and Lindholm as well.
I would also like to point out the irony of discussing Jankowski in a thread about trading Tanev, when I am sure Tanev played a small part in the Pens choosing Jankowski (we know GMs talk to players about the character of other players) as they were teammates at Providence College for 4 years.
In response to your reply to me about Ryan being a better fit for the Pens, he probably is, because he is a better player than Jankowski. Frankly, normally I would personally be all over a Tanev/Ryan swap, but the Flames are not in a position to entertain anything around Ryan and Tanev because of the flat cap. Ryan is a pending UFA and we need to hold onto our expiring contracts with decent raises likely coming for Valimaki and Dube and the only 2021 UFA other than Ryan with a contract big enough to potentially make a difference is Rittich, but I can't imagine that Flames save more than a million on a backup over Rittich's 2.75m

Then we also have Noah King, Greg Moro and Koletrane Wilson signed to AHL deals too.
Frankly with our defensive depth, I don't see Bowey wanting to sign with the Flames anyways as in my estimation, he might not even get 1st pairing time in the AHL.

Ryan may be a solid 3rd liner, but with a flat cap, no team would be paying more than a mid round pick for his services. He may be a solid player, but in terms of trade value, he has little at the moment. A team desperate for a 3rd line centre could sign Haula or Soderberg for less.
Lucic is awful. please do not defend him. He is a massive overpayment even with retention. He had a couple could playoff games sure, but in reality, he is a 4th line player making 5.25 million. In a flat cap world, he has very negative value. In order to dump him it would cost MORE than a first round pick. Lucic hasn't been good for the flames. he hasn't been good since 2016/17. he has a combined 24 goals over the last 3 seasons. That contract is immovable without sending significant pieces the other way.
Hoffman at 25 goals is still infinitely better than Lucic and Ryan. This makes the flames clear cut better. Just dumping Lucic period, makes this team better.</div></div>
I haven't looked at an analytics chart in my life.
Ryan is worth more to the Flames than other teams, his trade value is irrelevant because we don't want to trade him because he makes this team better. Each of the past two years his line has been one of our best down the stretch.
If you think Lucic was terrible, you obviously never watched him as a Flame. He's not what he was but he doesn't hurt the team defensively, he makes smart plays with the puck, has been great in the room and been a solid net front presence on our 2nd PK unit. No, he's not worth his contract, but he helps the team enough that giving up a 1st plus to dump him is not worth it.
But you know what? It's all moot, Lucic would never waive his NMC to go to a tire fire like Ottawa.

The Flames aren't going to sign Bowey just to expose Kylington to waivers. Also the Flames have Nesterov, Valimaki, Kylington and possibly Mackey that can play RD.

You cant seriously sit here and tell me either of those players are better than Hoffman, then include lucic's horrible contract and Hoffman on a 1 year deal. its not even close</div></div>
Spoken like someone that doesn't know a thing about the players in question.
You citing Ryan is worthless shows nothing but your ignorance as he is a top end PKer, elite faceoff man and good for 35 points while driving his line, creating energy and being reliable defensively.
Lucic's contract is not great, but with Edmonton paying 12.5% of his cap hit and having already paid the bulk of his contract; the amount of real dollars we are actually paying Lucic isn't much an overpayment, not worth giving up a 1st and a decent prospect to give up. Lucic has been quite good for the Flames, contrary to what people like you want to believe.
Hoffman might score 30 goals on a team like Florida, but on the Flames he would be on the 2nd PP unit and thus his goal production would drop.
So I stand by my point that Hoffman (at 20-25 goals) is not worth losing one of our best PKers and getting easier to play against.

As a Flames fan, I'd rather have Lucic and Ryan over Hoffman. The former two are solid bottom six players at 5 on 5 while contributing to special teams; they are also not liabilities when not scoring. Hoffman on the other hand, is essentially a PP specialist that won't see top PP time in Calgary and is a liability 5 on 5 and him on our shutdown line would render them useless defensively.
