Leafs will be ok without Marner. Not great but ok. If I am Dubas though it is like O'Neil said today 11x7 or 8x3, or enjoy Zurich. Secretly I hope they flip him for Panarin and dump Ceci. To prove a point.

Haha I know, possibly also an overpay for that reason. The point is they are similar players, but if Marner signs a bridge for 3x11 which is ridiculous then you could save 4-5 million a year by trading him.

I like this a lot it is realistic. I hope they use Schmalz as a buffer D. I want Liljegren to play asap to utilize his ELC Cheap contract. Liljegren may suck this year but if he can be replacement level then he has gained 1 season experience at the NHL level, vs being in the minors burning a year on the ELC. Shattenkirk contract is realistic too. He still gets his money from the buyout. Heck he may even sign cheaper.

Well, 2250000-697500 does not equal 2 million more like 1.5, with Callahan on LTIR they have about 12 million in space. Knowing Tampa, Point will sign for 9-ish. I Think they can replace Erne if they get Barrie...

I think Cernak is worth the stretch, I have been using Sean Tierney's Trade tool a lot. I think Cernak is worth a huge overpay. I would give up Dermott, Liljegren + 2nd to get him. It is because of market balance. easier to replenish the left side down the road. Like you could probably sign Ben Hutton for 1-2 million and he would be fine with Cernak

Well, Lou has been known to make make strange decisions. Like give me 3 years of Uncle Leo, Give me Matt Martin. Plus he signed Marleau, Zaitsev for anchor contracts. I see no reason why he would not add to his long line of rather bad moves.

Well next season you gotta sign Barrie or Muzzin. Barrie say 8aav, Muzzin is likely 5aav abt=13mill combined. Hamilton+muzzin is 11 combined. Besides i like hamiltons defensive game better than Barrie

Gardiner Signing
I think it is debatable what Marner will come in at. For me 5 years is a no, since Matthews Marner and Nylander would all be UFAS at the same time. I think If Marner expires at the same time as Tavares it would 6 Years and perfect. At this stage you buy one year of UFA over Aho at 1.000.000 plus change. That is market value for Marner. Sure if he was UFA at 23 you would pay him McDavid Money but he is not, and he does not have the leverage. Nylander tried, but now Leafs have a Marner level winger at 7mill aav for 6 years. Who will complain about that contract next year? Look at Ehlers, Pastrnak?

You are probably right, In truth I dont think Gardiner is worth pursuing. I also think Barrie is a mistake. TML only needs one PP quarterback from the D, and 1-2 average ones for the last 30 seconds. Reilly and Barrie are interchangeable. Reilly is on a good contract. You cant resign Muzzin and Barrie. Maybe one of them. I think Dermott is important but i think if you look at the future Cernak is better than Dermott. value/balance wise

I dont think TML need a Tyson Barrie resigned when they have Reilly and Sandin coming. There are ups and down in Dermott and Cernak. But Cernak is more physical and a big tough body which shoots right. Will probably cost about 2-3mill out of elc on a bridge

Danishleafsfan here. Todd I like it although I would look at Pateryn and Mayfield before Pysyk. I would also try to dump everything but the kitchen sink in the AHL(plus picks in 2020)(sink being Sandin) in a trade for Cernak. I think Marner is 9.750.000 over 6. If it is 8 I think it is 10.200.000.

That is true. I know all about Liljegren and Bracco. The way I see it is that the Leafs already have Reilly, Dermott (Sandin in the pipeline) Sandin and Reilly can run the powerplay, but they are not very good defensively. Muzzin can step up on the powerplay and so can Cernak. Leafs need penalty killers and shutdown guys on D for the future. Bracco, Liljegren plus picks is a huge price I agree possibly an overpay, but well worth it.

LTIR Toronto Take 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>The problem here is that his cap space is worth more than 2 4th round picks that have like an 8% chance of turning into a player.
Which is why the ask on Marleau has been a younger player. It's not that teams can't take him. They can, they have talked about it. The issue is the ask. No one is giving up that cap space for basically nothing.
Pure cap dumps for low round picks are rare. You got to give to get. The player has to at least be able to contribute. But at Marleau's age he's a pure cap dump.
The real deal is Kesler, it's a big assumption he just tales LTIR and the league OK's it. If that's the case, why would ANA even bother. I'm sure there are a lot of other teams that would offer up on that if that was the case too.</div></div>
So it would require higher picks and or a promising AHL player/NHL Roster player? I think you are right.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>two problems here. 1st it assumes you can put Kesler on LTIR.
2nd is that the ask on Marleau was a younger player. aka prospect. To take him. This is assuming he's a LTIR and not active roster.
While you can look at it as a cap swap, it's not. If Kesler is going to LTIR, they still get the cap space. Much like why you traded for him. and that has value as opposed to eating away at the cap.</div></div>
True, to the first. They will get two 4th round picks plus Marleau for eating a bit of cap and helping the Leafs. Ducks are rebuilding and are likely not going to spend to the cap. Anaheim is also in Cali which is where Marleau likely wants to go. I doubt they will put him on LTIR. Marleau's contract is up next summer though unlike Kesler's.
